SAMUEL ROSS HORSES ABOUT READY h 25 The division divisionof of the stable of Samuel Ross of Washington that trainer Max Smart is preparing for racing at Benning track will lie ready for the colors at Bowie Smart has missed no opportunity this spring to get work under the belts of his charges and for about three weeks the going at Bciming has been comparatively safe for work His bist twoyearolds since the sale of the Streph ui Beth Stanley colt Stanley to J S Tyree for 2500 are a colt called Attorney a son of Strcphon Haversack and a filly called Optimism a daughter of Ban of Hope Ettawa Both of these were raised at Captain Philip M Walkers Page Brook farm in Clarke Comity Vir ¬ ginia and both are prepossessing The Bard of Hope filly is something of a runner too She will race in the course of the first week of tile Bowie meeting Smart may have to wait until toward the end of the meeting on the Strcphon colt which is big and weedy and possibly a bit backward Smart will find out just where this youngster stands when he calls on him at Benning toward the end of the current week weekMr Mr Ross filly Toucanct a daughter of Vulcain Toucan that showed unusual promise as a long dis ¬ tance runner last year as did several other two and threeyearold by Henry T Oxnards fine young Rock Sand stallion which was a great long distance filmier in France a few years back has broadened and thickened notably Smart says she is ready now to go threequarters of a mile and he believes that she will win at one mile before the Bowie meeting is finished He expects something of Killy Gordon and Optimistic a colt and a filly that did not race last summer to the promise of their early trials trialsSmart Smart is figuring on getting SOUK flat racing under the belts of his Gleiiiver stable jumpers at Bowie These fencers have been out jumping when ¬ ever the weather was halfway decent all winter and they are nearly fit These jumpers are Sea Sun Pioneer Baronet Venal Joy Ilarwood Traiis pero Sous Marine Ballarosa Old Bill Bender Lava SupTba and Chester Two
