FAVORITES FOR THE EPSOM DERBY English Opinion Divided About Tetratema and Sir Galahad in Same Stable It will IK generally conceded that the three yearolds for IJlit are superior to those of last year and the classic races will be anticipated with keener interest than usual although as yet no bet ¬ ting on the Derby has been published Some more or less substantial business has however been done at the offices and as was to be expected Tetra ¬ tema is favorite though only fractionally so from his stable companion Prince Galahad and li to 1 would I imagine be a full offer against the two coupled Hitherto Chattis Hill has not been fortu ¬ nate with its classic horses Seaforth The Totraroh and Stefan the Great all havijig disappointed but undoubtedly the ffcculiarly marked gray was the greatest of these It is to be hoped that his son Tetratema will steer clear of misadventure for he too won all his races last year and could travel at a great pace but no tyo animals could offer a greater contrast The father was of the impetuous character while the son is a regular sobersides disinclined to overexert himself and gifted with that beautifully smooth action wiikh takes nothing out of him His fore joints may not be quite perfect but no other fault in his conformation and it was alawys a treat to see him and Carslake to ¬ gether Kverything the colt did was well done from the time he smashed up I irty Phoebe in the Na ¬ tional Hreeders Produce Stakes to the day In treated Southern Light Hearted Swynburn and Morganatic Marriage like so many hacks in tin Middle Park Plate It remains to be seen if Tetratema will stay but all his work has been accomplished in the smoothest style without the least sign of tiring and if his sire was deficient in that essential which after all is problematical his grandsire Koi llerude could stay forever foreverMost Most people were surprised when Messrs Itoliiu son and Clark sold that good and game oolt Galroy for iUO 0 but the wonder was dispelled within a fortnight when it was sun olear that they owned his superior in Prince Galahad which had made such a brilliant debut at Ascot and in spite of giv ¬ ing many lengths a way at the start won the Chesham Stakes easily Tin colt was then kept away from racing until the autumn when he out ¬ stayed Orpheus Southern and others in the Dew Imrst Plate As a matter of fact he won in a cau ter and nothing could have been more business like than the performance and in the knowledge that an offer of BOIIUO had been refused for Oryhiiis it is not surprising even in these days of mammoth prices that another huge offer did not tempt the owners of Prince Galahad to part with him Like his stablemate Prince Galahad is unbeaten and al ¬ though through Orpheus there is a collateral line which favors the gray no twoyearold retired for the winter with greater promise of improvement than Mid this Prince Palatine colt which is of the stoutest blood on the dams side also being the sec onil foal of the Martagon mare Decagone bred by K Sherwood and bought as a foal by Messrs Uob inson and Clark She had a short racing career only running thrice as a twoyearold and winning the Hrocklesby Stakes in moderate company Vigilant in London Sportsman
