GENERAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY General AAeather Forecast Fair weather will prevail until Wednesday night over practically this entire forecast district from Lake Michigan and Illinois westward to the Rocky Mountains with slowly rising temperature except in the far north ¬ west where the weather will be somewhat colder Wednesday WednesdayPresident President Wilson yesterday appointed the railroad labor board and called a meeting of the cabinet today to discuss the general situation White House officials refused to admit the unauthorized railroad strike prompted the call but it is under ¬ stood the strike situation will be the principal sub ¬ ject of discussion when the cabinet members meet This is the first cabinet meeting called by the President since he returned from his western trip last September a very sick man Since his ill ¬ ness he has seen only a few members of his official family The newly chosen railroad labor board is made up of the following men Representing the public George AV Hanger AVashington D 0 Henry Hunt Cincinnati and R M llarton Ttn nessee Representing the railroads Horace linker 1 H Elliott and William L Park Representing tho employes Albert Phillips A O AVharton and James J Forrester The board will be authorized to meet in Washington at once to take up the grievances of the railroad employes now on strike The nominations went to the Senate at noon yester ¬ day and prompt action by that body is expected Under the transportation act the railroad labor board is the court of last resort in disputes be ¬ tween the roads and their employes Its first work after considering the present strike will be to take up the whole railroad wage question which has been pending for nearly a year The board is to establish permanent headquarters at Chicago and its members will devote all of their time to the work They will receive salaries of 10000 a year each eachAn An army airplane remodeled to carry eight ma ¬ chine guns has liien sent to the Mexican border for official test In addition to the two guns synchronized to fire between the propeller blades the plane has two fixed guns set to fire through tho floor of the pilots cockpit two on the upper gun mount and two to fire through the floor of tho observers cockpit In some planes the floor guns will be mounted so as to permit flexible aiming Other inventions ready for testing by army fliers include a new model gyroscopic compass weighing only seventeen pounds and a heater for oxygen to be used in high altitudes altitudesDeportation Deportation of of the 3000 persons arrested in the radical raids made by the Department of Justice against tin communist and communist labor parties several months ago has been ordered by tho depart ¬ ment of labor A review issued by the department said 1323 of the cases finally had Ixen disposed of with 033 dismissals ordered From December 29 to April i a total of 5711 warrants were issued against radical aliens and 3000 of these were served The departments announcement said the totals did not include a number of cases where the aliens had been placed upon probation or cases which had been reopened for further hearing hearingTho Tho Pennsylvania and New York Central railroads wore asked yesterday by the Department of Justice to send the names of all their striking employes and t indicate which of them were leaders in the walk ¬ out Pennsylvania and New York Central depart ¬ ment officials flatly refused to discuss the meaning of the messages or to indicate whether similar requests would go forward to the executives of otier railroad corporations corporationsA A pronounced victory for the Poles over tho Itolsheviki on the southeastern front was reported by the general staff at Warsaw yesterday After sev ¬ eral days fighting a Bolshevik division was put to fight and more than a score of machine guns with much btxily were captured by the Poles PolesThe The Iterlin Deutsche Tapes Xeitung says it has learned from a reliable source that tho condition of former Empress Augusta Aictoria has become so grave that tho announcement of her death may bo expected at any moment
