HIGH COMMAND NOT TO GO IN DERBY LKXIXCTOX Ky April 17 After her fast workout Friday it is a ten to one chance for that is what some local folks are willing to take that Major Thomas C McDowells easy gliding low run ¬ ning filly Distinction by The Manager Alanarka wins the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs oa May S It has been eighteen years since Major McDowell won the Derby and he did it with Allan aDale the sire of Distinctions dam damI I had not intended to start Distinction in the Derby but now it looks much as if I would make a mistake to pass up such an opportunity said Major McDowell last night It was my purpose only to point her for the three Oaks races at Lex ington Louisville and Latonia but she has shown and is showing me so much this spring that tonight it looks like she can 1m counted as among the number that will go to the post for the Derby DerbyShe She won her only race last year lint she dis ¬ played a little soreness and I decided to let up on her training until this year and I am happy to say that she has shown no soreness whatever and that every move she has made has been refreshingly better than the previous work She is as we on the turf say of our good ones a sweet filly fillyMajor Major McDowell further stated that he had de cided that High Command will not start in the Kentucky Derby and that he is not to be rushed in his preparation He is galloping regularly but as yet nothing of a serious nature lias been asked of liiin
