STANCH OLD SUBMIT HAS GONE A Popular Figure in English Racing Is Mercifully Tut to Death April 7 one of the veterans of the English turf old Submit was mercifully shot and buried near the racing ground at Epsom where several of the bodies of Lord Koseberys best horses are in ¬ terred Submit was owned by Dr Coleman the wellknown Kpsom veterinary surgeon and had raced thirteen years He was fourteen years old a gelding foaled in 1903 by the French horse Sir Geoffrey Sub Kosa by Sweetbread by Ambuscade Sir Geoffrey was by St Angelo Ii vicrge The elderly Submit was a prime favorite with the English racing public and was given a rousing cheer when he won a hurdle race in March his last appearance and to make good a wager by his owner that the gelding would win again before he died Submit ran seven races for the one win and three seconds this year yearIt It was mercifully hard to shoot the old gelding after twelve years of racing during which hi earned some 48 0 was out sixtyeight times won twentytwo races was second twelve times third four times and unplaced thirtytwo times Submit came out as a gelding in 190S raced in J K Jones colors for two seasons winning eight out of seventeen races Then he went wrong was unplaced thrice in 1910 and sold to Dr Coleman who nursed and patched him up for two years Then won seven out of sixteen steeplechase and hurdle races the latter was alwys best raine and he was unplaced but four times From 1913 to his death Submit performed fortyeight limes and won fourteen races Kef ore that in five seasons twenty starts and English victories made up his record recordThe The old horse1 was one of the stanch equinb characters that come and 50 on the turf and en ¬ dear themselves to the public He deserved a better end
