NAPA STOCK FARM BREEDING PLANS Number of Brood Mares to Be Increased List of Foals Now on the Farm SAX FUAXCISCO Cal May 1 Preparing for the breeding of highclass thoroughbreds in the years to come A B Spreckels proprietor of Xapa Stock Farm plans to gradually Increase the number of choicely bred brood mares at his horse headquarters There is a time when as many as eighty head grazed in the rich grass which abounds in the beautiful Xapa Aalley where the stock farm is situated Old age sickness and other causes took away about half of the mares in the last few years All the while Mr Spreckels bus been formulating his plans to keep the stud up to oldtime standards AVIth the stallions Itunnymede Dr Leggo and Aoorhees to mate with the mares he easily can maintain about as large a haras as any of the breeders of the eastern states statesMr Mr Spreekels is a great believer in the pro ¬ ductivity of certain lines of blood and always endeavors to preserve strains that have proved successful So he often selects a daughter of a good producer to keep the good work going He has given instructions for the filly Knnatrix a twoyearold daughter of Knnnymede Salva triv to be returned to the ranch next fall in order that she can be bred In all probability however Kunatrix will not begin her duties as a matron until four years of age as the master of Xapa Stock Farm seldom breeds a threeyearold Salvatriv dam of the filly had her ninth foal March 21 a trim well formed chestnut filly by Itunnymede All the sons and daughters of the mare that have reached racing age have earned brackets Salvatrix is by the Salvator stallion Salvation dam Instnllatrix by Brutus BrutusAnother Another young racer that will be retired to the stud this year or next is the filly Leipsie by Itunnymede Bremerhafen by the St Simon horse Sandringham dam the Hanover mare Bremen The best English blood is blended with the stoutest American strains in the filly Leipsie is the last foal of the dam which died a little more than a year ago Bremerhafen was y steady producer among her sons and daughters being Sam Hill Al fadir and half a dozen other winners winnersAll All the foals this year are lusty in appearance and promise to develop into good runners as have so many from the Xapa Farm Itunnymede by Voter Ituiming Stream by Domino is sire of the majority of the frisky little thoroughbreds scamp ¬ ering about every day in the roomy paddocks of tin big place These are the third crop of Itniiny medes and every one sbow the wellknit compact sturdy conformation that distinguished the foals of last year and the year before The stok of Kunny mede is going up all the time not only on account of his own achievements in the stud but by the reflected glory he acquires from the success of his halfbrother Ultimus sire of Luke McLnke AVith the winning of the Hinata Stakes by the Luke Mcluke filly Miss Muffins on the opening day at Lexington more interest than ever has been drawn to the sons of Kunning Stream a daughter of Domino Dancing AVater AVaterThe The foals re as follows followsChestnut Chestnut filly by Ktinnymede Kmhla by Soli ¬ taire II IIChestnut Chestnut filly by Kunnymede Olathe by Sol itjire II IIChestnut Chestnut filly by Kunnymede Ilymir by Dr DrBay Bay filly by Kunnymede Xorinne by Brutus BrutusChestnut Chestnut colt by Knnnyincde Xafra by Soli ¬ taire II IIBay Bay filly by Dr lyggo Miss Piinny by Bright Phoebus PhoebusChestnut Chestnut colt by Kunnymede Miceo by Star Shoot ShootChestnut Chestnut filly by Knnnyme e Pourijoni by Star SNiot SNiotBay Bay tolt by Aoorhees Coriana by Dr Leggo LeggoChestnut Chestnut filly by KunnynuMit Salvatrix by Sal ¬ vation vationChestnut Chestnut colt by Kuiiiiyiicdc Abbas by Big Chief ChiefBay Bay colt by Kunnymede Solara by Solitaire II IIPIick PIick filly by Itnnnymcde Mcana by Pliryear 1
