LATONIA RACE TRACK A LIVELY PLACE Owners Riders Horses anil Future Spectators Al ¬ ready Thronging the Noted Covington Course CINCINNATI Ohio June 1 Latonia race track became an animated place this morning as a re ¬ sult of the constant arrivals from Louisville the newly arriving horses comprising a respectable num ¬ ber and each succeeding train added to the total The Elrod Special brought the advance guard of turfmen who will engage in the racing bore and besides included trainers jockeys and a goodly num ¬ ber of followers Tlie old guard expressed delight with the numerous improvements installed since last fall and to the newcomer the massive plant was a revelation Considerable in the way of finishing touches are yet in order but the feverish activity of the hug force of workers still engaged makes H certain that everything will be in thorough readiness when the horses are called to the barrier ii the initial dash June 5 5According According to the track superintendent stall res ¬ ervations have been made for more horses than there are stalls available and many owners will have to find stabling quarters for their charges in private barns adjacent to the track trackThe The car shortage is still acute but the problem ol transiMirtation in a measure was solved by the willingness of the owners to use box cars and send their horses from Louisville here by special freight trains It is expected that SOO horses will be transferred liy this mode in addition to those which will be able to come by express expressInterest Interest in the coming meeting is greater than in former years and applications for club mem ¬ bership have increased correspondingly correspondinglyAdvices Advices have already reached here that the La ¬ tonia Derby will have among its starters many of the better grade of eastern three yearolds includ ¬ ing 1aul Jones winner of the Kentucky Derby
