A NEW YORKER ON FRENCH RACING Fred Hoey Is of the Opinion That an English Horse Will Win Grand Prix NEW YORK N Y June 0 The following ex ¬ cerpt from a letter written by Fred Hoey well known American follower of the turf who has been living abroad for some years to Thomas Welsh gives an idea of the French racing situa ¬ tion The Murphy referred to is Thomas Murphy who has charge of the Macomber horses and prior to that time was with the late Herman B Duryea DuryeaSince Since I wrote you Murphy has got the machine running smoothly and has won some good races His Meddlesome Maid is the best threeyearold filly in France It is a pity that she has no en ¬ gagements Pendennis wins by a street after be ¬ ing disgracefully beaten and ho looks to me like a horse that will not always give you his best He is also a mud runner Sorbier is a miler Like his half brother Saint Souplet he does not stay Odol is still unbeaten but I do not think he is a real good horse An English horse will about win the Grand Prix in my opinion Kcnilworlh just wont try I stopped over two days at Deauville The weather was fine and I took a look around Be sure and breed some mares to Alcantara He is sweeping everything before him There was one real crack here in Passebreuil It is too hail he met witli an accident which will finish Ids racing career He would have won the Ascot Gold Cup Decazes told me that Lord Derby told him that there was not a stayer in England Juveigneur Is going over for it Decnzes thinks he will win it but I do not think lie is as good a horse as many here consider him
