CHARLEY BOOTS IN RACING AGAIN SAN FRANCISCO Cnl June 10 Charles T Boots who owned the noted stallion Brutus is pre ¬ paring a string of horses for campaigning next fall in the modest comeback of the great sport of racing in California The racing will be held in connection witli the state fair and the various district fairs held annually in the flourishing sec ¬ tions of the state Some of the other breeders will have starters in the races and that is why lh public is talking about racing being here again in real earnest The circuit opens at Santa Rosa in the latter part of August for a week then shifts to Sacramento for the state fair and on to Hanford Kings county Fresno Los Angeles River ¬ side Salinas and other live towns townsGeorge George Strate superintendent of the Wikiup Rancho home of Friar Itpck is tuning up u few horses that munched hay alongside the recent New York winner Passing Shower last winter He plans to have the gallopers ready for the Santa Rosa meeting Quite a number of the horsemen who will race at Reno in the nineteenday meeting to open July 8 will ship to Santa Rosa as the purses are attractive There will be three races on each of the five days of 500 each eachMr Mr Boots is enthusiastic for the coming meet ¬ ings at Santa Rosa and the other tracks as he has always been a booster for racing for its own sake These meetings will be purely for the fun of the thing and not for the financial aggrandize ¬ ment of any individual or group Among the horses he has put in training on his home track at Elm wood Stock Farm are War Cry by Sunstar Fair Lassie by Orme Our Lassie by Ayrshire War Cry is a handsome brown fouryearold that was not able to do himself justice when in the A 1C Macomber string at New York on account of tem ¬ porary bodily disabilities He is galloping now in a manner to suggest he will show the natives how a really wellbred horse can go on the race course when he is right Walter Jennings his former trainer has often expressed a high opinion of War Crys individuality
