STUD FARM AND RACE TRACK ADJOIN Reno Patrons Find the Wingfield Stud Handy and Pleasing to Visit BY F L McKENNEY McKENNEYSAN SAN FRANCISCO Cal June 22 The shift from Tijuana to Reno in coast racing for the sum ¬ mer is a welcome one to sportsineii that look for atmosphere in the great outdoor sport The Reno course is only a mile or two from George Wingfiehls Nevada Stock Farm one of the largest thoroughbred nurseries in the West As breeding is the foundation of racing it is more than fit that the two should flourish side by side When the sport is on at Reno the opportunity is pre ¬ sented to the true lover of the running horse for ideal pleasure After a happy morning in the spacious paddocks of the big stud establishment admiring the frisky wellformed foals of the sea ¬ son the wellbred matrons Mr Wingfield has assembled from all parts of the world and the stallicns Atheling and Honeywood one can motor over tn the nearby race track In past years the Wingfield colors have been prominent in the fea ¬ ture races at the home town meetings and his ¬ tory is likely to be repeated next month monthThere There is nothing like a little new blood in rac ¬ ing and that is what is promised at the Nevada town meeting In addition to the horses that raced at Tijuana a number will be campaigned by west ¬ ern owners who have not taken any part in the sport in recent years Interest is keen among the friends of Sven Christensen a San Francisco horse ¬ man as to the showing of a half dozen he has shipped to Reno from his place in Alameda County The threeyearolds Bill Blackwell and Duncan S Murray and a twoyearold by Joe Carey Las Flores by Bearcatcher are in the Christensen string None has ever faced the barrier The threeyearolds are sons of the Dorante stallion Gladwin and were given their primary racing edu ¬ cation last winter at Sacramento by Walter Heath trainer of the Wingfield stable Bill Blackwell is a son of Nuns Yeiling by St Angelo Nuns Cloth and the other colt is a son of Amada by St Avonicus Afamada AfamadaThe The Christensen horses were sent over from the owners Meadowbrook Stock Farm where the stal ¬ lion AVar Shot is standing War Shot served a dozen mares this year He is a good looking brown five years old by Mauvezin Berenice bv St Sinionian II Isis by Bend Or Shotover by Hermit breeding which is just now popular abroad Mauvezin sire of War Shot was a fast horse and was ridden in some of his races by Tod SIoan
