ENGLISH YEARLING FRIGES Newmarket Averages Less Than Those of Last LastYear Year Dominion Goes to Spain Spainto to Race RY E E COCSSELL COCSSELLLOXDOX LOXDOX Kngland July US An analysis of the results of the yearling sales at the Newmarket Second July Meeting gives some remarkable results The summary for the last three years is as follows Year Horses Prices Averages 1918 32 53025 SIG55 191 71 191210 2730 1920 ICO 211955 2120 2120It It will be seen there has been a notable reduc ¬ tion in the average price realized and that the num ¬ ber of youngsters offered was onethird in advance of last year of course the 1919 average was easily a record recordLast Last year at the Second July Sales the highest price realized was 15000 This week Sir R Jar dine paid 15500 for a filly by Charles OMalley and a colt by Sunstar Petite Marmite also made 1500 In 1920 there were as in 1919 exactly a dozen yearlings sold for 5000 and over but a year ago five of them made prices between 10000 and 15000 This year the next highest price was 8750 In 1919 the thirtysix colts sold averaged 3023 In 1920 the average for fiftythree was 2933 Last year thirtyfour fillies averaged 2423 This year the average for fortyseven was S1833 S1833From From the foregoing facts it seems fairly safe to assume there is not quite the same amount of money available for the purchase of young blood ¬ stock It is conceivable of course that the big buyers are reserving their energies for the Don caster Sales in September SeptemberA A feature of the sale was the demand for the off ¬ spring of Sunstar Another was the offer of the first yearlings by Sceptres only son Grosveuor by Cicero There were a dozen catalogued of those five only found buyers Five Grosvenors in succes ¬ sion passed through the ring without enlisting a bid AVitlioutexception they had small contracted feet and several of them already had ringbones It was a disappointing display displayMr Mr Frederick Johnson of Xew York was at tho Xtwiiiarket Sales but nothing attracted him suffi ¬ ciently to cause him to make a bid Dominion has been sold to Spain for 25000 Lately he has given trouble on the training tracks He goes to Spain to win the San Sebastian Grand Prix
