CLASSIC WINNERS SAVED FROM RUSSIA I have had news of that fine Russian sportsman and charming gentleman Mr Zveguintzoff whom many know in this country When Denikins army went to pieces he brought down to Novorossisk the best horses he had and there asked the British authorities to have them conveyed to Constantino ¬ ple This was done and several are there now in charge of the military authorities who have seized them on the pretext that they will go to ¬ ward paying some part of Russias debt to England When these horses which include Aboyeur and Loiiviers arrived at the Turkish capital my friend Zvegnlntzoff was ill with typhus but has now recovered and if he can obtain the release of his thoroughbreds he would like to bring at least Aboyeur and Loiiviers to England These two horses were respectively bought for Russia at what on the then rate of exchange represented about r 000 and 111250 this being in 1913 and I hear Aboyeur has got some fine stock Here is a story which illustrates the mentality of the bolsheviks A fast horse by Snnstar won a cup given by the czar and when they captured the animal and heard fie had won this race they courtnmrtialed the beast and shot him Andax in Horse and Hound HoundAboyeur Aboyeur was the winner of the sensational Epsom Derby of 1913 in which Cragauour finished first but was disqualified for fouling Loiiviers won the Two Thousand Guineas of that year with Craganonr second and the American horse Meeting House third then ran third to Craganoiir and Aboyeur in the Derby and was placed second after the dis ¬ qualification
