1 . 1 ; 1 1 : - V FIELD DAY FOR W. C. WEANT Saddles Three Winners at Thorncliffe Park-Auspicious Opening, with Over 8,000 Persons in Attendance. TIIORNCLIFFB PARK, Toronto. September 17. With ideal conditions prevailing, the autumn meeting of the Thorncliffe Park Racing and Breeding Association enjoyed an auspicious opening at this park today. The attendance numbered over 8,000. The weather was perfect and the track dried out wonderfully as the afternoon progressed. Taking the lead at the start and well rated bv 1 jockey W. Dodd, Fry and Dahnkes Veteran held sway at ail stages of the Leaside Purse, the fifth and feature race of the card. At the end he beat Lord Herbert by half a length, with My Dear a creditable third. Breeze, the favorite, after a slow beginning raced up to the leaders at the far turn, where he was sharply pinched off and eliminated as a factor. i W. C. Weant had a field day. After winning the third race with Dioined and the fourth with Top I th Morning he saddled Claquer, winner of the sixth, for B. Williams. All three won by small margins. Win. Walker provided the winners of the first and second races in P. Moody and Barber, which marked their initial victories. , Jockey I. Fletcher dislocated his collar bone during the running of the fourth race and was unable to pull up Mayor House after the finish. The Lorse was caught by the attendant with a pony. Jockeys McCrann, E. Fator and Pickens arrived here this morning from Montreal. Jockey Walls was an arrival from Baltimore. Wm. Walkers Honolulu unseated her rider while being galloped this morning and ran away about two miles before being captured. C. H. Smith recently purchased the two-year-old Johns Umma from J. W. Schorr and he will carry the colors of his new owner at this meeting. B. A. Jones claimed Sherman A. for ,700 out of the last race at Dufferin Park yesterday. Mrs. A. Miller also took Banyan for 00. Twelve Bells was found to be ineligible after being second iu a maiden race at Dufferin Tark on Wednesday. Bonna A. consequently got the second money and Royal Red Bird the third por-ticii of the purse. . M. Leroy today" purchased at private sale the Canadian-bred Yorkist from W. Russell. The horse is extensively engaged iu stake races at the Woodbine Park meeting. The stables of Harry Giddincs, T. Donahue, and J. Lumsden arrived today at Woodbine Park from Montreal. II. Tullett, with the good two-year-old - Ikey. T., and C. A. Crew were also arrivals here from Blue Bonnets today.
