LATONIAS CAPITAL RAGING Woodtrap Takes Feature Race, with Brotherly Love Next. Jack JHare Jr. Wins Countess an$ Red Legs Account for the Two-Year-Old Races. BY J. L. DEMPSBY. LATONIA. Ky., October 7. Woodtrap, carrying, Jf McPhersons silks, showed a fine race in the mile handicap for a purse of ,200 and took into camp Brotherly Love and Blackie Daw. He achieved his victory in easy style after having led for the entire way. He might have been subjected to a more severe test had a more competent rider been astride Blackie Daw. The latter had stanch backing, on a par with Woodtrap, but Ridenonr, in lis effort to keep him reserved in the early rnn-Jilntr, bungled his task badly, resulting in the horse :pus fill over the track and suffering from interference, Woodtrap, on .the other hand, dashed into thq lead at once and k-pt in advance of Brotherly Loye, another that was well regarded by his eon-jjections, and when the final drive came Woodtrap was equal to the emergency and held Brotherly Love safe. Blackie Daw barely escaped losing third place to Bread Man, which raced fairly well and should win soon. The same applies to Frank W., which is about ready. JJmayerfields contributed extensively to enjoyable racing ami for the first time at this meeting supporters of favorites had a field day, as choices EHUiJlomeiL.with regularity. Their victories were" inaugurated in the opener, when Jack Hare Jr. overcame, early difficulties- to draw out in the wtreteli nnd score easily from Blue Paradise and Minute Man. .Countess, which hns been raciug consistently, vria tile choice in the second race and just succeeded in getting home before Miss Fontaine, with Bungat Buck following. Golden Quince, from F. J. Kelleys stable, was a supposed good thing and might: have won but for a slow start she bad and forced to race wide and is promising. Capt. Rees continued the onward march of the fqyorltes when he slipped through next to the inner rail under Heinisehs good riding and overhauled Ooikrpnch, in the last, seventy yards, to score a neck -victory. , Red Legs, well supported, took the measure of the colts starting in the fourth race, but bis margin pf success over Rama was n narrow one and at u longer distance Rama would have won. Billy Bfirjon was the favorite here, but he ran a poor face and Gnrner eased him up in the stretch. peorge Starr, after being away poorly and secin-Jnjrjy unequal to the task of overhauling the leader Qut the Way, ultimately accomplished his task, but- mainly by virtue of the Goldblatt representative, tiring suddenly in the last seventy yards. Tojays attendance was again of generous size, and tile pleasant weather prevailing was a contributing factor to much enjoyed sport. Jockey H. King, recently suspended for rough riding, was suspended for an additional five days for yjolation of the rule which prohibits suspended persons from coming on the grounds during the term of their suspension. Jockey W. W. Taylor, wus given an additional two days suspension for tlie same offense.
