TEN LECS SPLENDID RACE Carries 120 Pounds to Impressive Victory in Jamaicas Main Race Meeting Ends Today. NEW YORK, N. Y.. October 14. The Foreign Stables Ten-Lec proved her quality when she-ir-ried 120 pounds and won the Hiawatha Handicap, the ,500 added feature of todays Jamaica program, by two lengths from Conine. The winner was stanclily supported and from an opening of even money was backed to 7 to 10 at post time. She followed the pace of Tamarisk for the first quarter, where she took the lead and maintained it to the end. Conine also; showed a good race when she. finished seven lengths in advance of Tamarisk. Tj?he others were never prominent in the running. Marshall Bros, furnished the surprise of the after-neon when Lottery took the fifth race, making a donble for that stable, it having previously accounted for the third race with Tlie Nephew. Lottery had been tried so often recently that the talent entirely overlooked him and made Lovely the favorite, with Marion Hollins second choice. The race developed into a stretch duel between Lottery and American Boy, both outsiders. The latter went into the lead at the head of the stretch, but the Marshall racer, well ridden by Roblnsoiu saved much ground at the far turn and outpaced American Boy through the final eighth, winning handily by one length. Lovely was third. The meeting at Jamaica will close tomorrow, after which the scene will shift to Empire City for the final meeting of the year on the Metropolitan courses. Racegoers were grieved to learn of the death on Wednesday of Chief Thomas Lally, which occurred at his home in Brooklyn. The chief was for many years head of the Brooklyn Fire Department and was an oldtime admirer of the thoroughbred, having a host of friends among racing men.
