OPENING DAY AT BOWIE Greatest Crowd in Its History Sees Inaugural Program. i Yellow Hand Easily Triumphs in Prjnce George Handicap Tippity Witchet Wins. . BOWIE,- 311., November 13. One of the largest crowds ever assembled within the inclosure of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association course witnessed the hollow victory of R. T. "Wilson Jrs. Yellow Hand, in the Prince George Handicap, at one mile and seventy yards, the inaugural feature of the final meeting of the year in Maryland. The winner was waited with in the early running, moved up rapidly rounding the far turn and drew away with a dazzling display of speed, to win as far as his rider wished. Rubidium kept close up throughout and gamely outstayed Recount for second place. The latter gained mucli ground in the last eighth Improved transportation facilities enabled racegoers to reach Prince George Park without the inconveniences formerly encountered in a trip to the Bowie track. This, together with ideal weather and a splendid racing program, brought out the largest gathering in the history of the course. .Fonrteen two-year-olds responded to the bugle call in the opening dash, and those who cast their lot with the field profited handsomely, when Tan Son got up in the final strides to beat the favorite Hustlers by a, head. The- latter was much best, but: for having the worst of a rough race would probably" have won . easily.- - f , J: Wl "MCCIellahds Bdri Homme, heavily backed favorite In the Capital City Purse, never left the restilt of the race in doubt for a moment, rushing into a safe lead with the rise of the barrier and easily maintained it all the way, despite the best efforts of Hilly McLaughlin and Polythia to overtake him. ;The ever popular Tippity Witchet galloped home nn easy victor in the six and a half furlongs race, for .horses of air ages, running away from Wyoming and Jadda, which finished second and third respectively.
