FRENCH RACING NEAR 200 YEARS OLD Horse racing was first started in France by English" ijhmigrante and it began to make its influence felt with the opening of Chantilly race course in May, 1734. About this period there was a gradual immigration of English racing families to France, and at the .present day the numerous descendants of those families play an important part in the countrys racing affairs. Indeed, at Chantilly and MaiBons-Laffitte, the two great French training centers, international marriages during many decades -have resulted in a half-and-half English and French community. Both languages arc spoken freely by the families living in the vicinity.
