HEAVY TRACK AT HAVANA Blazeaway First in Principal Race of Day Good Sport Despite Difficult Going. HAVANA, Cuba, December 2.. Racing .at Oriental Park today was over a heavy track. There was no outstanding feature, the fourth race being the main offering of the program. A good band of sprinters with a partiality for a soft track made up the field with favorites divided between Itlazo-away and Discussion. They finished first and third as named with Osgood between them. The latter is a superior mud runner and set a fast pace for the going, showing the way from the start, but was no match for RIazeaway when the final test came, although he was in close quarters at the end. Discussion ran well and forwardly throughout, but tired in the final strides. Despite cloudy skies a large crowd turned out this afternoon. It was one of the biggest midweek attendances this season. Well balanced fields went lo the post and interesting contests were in order. After many unsuccessful attempts the lleno filly Ravanna finally managed to graduate from the maiden ranks when she won the first, race today. In doing so she upset a well-planned coup with Kontmere. which was backed down from 15 to 5 to 1. The latter set the pace to the last eighth, where Ravanna took command to win by a safe margin. No liberties were taken with Fleer in the second race, and the Leydecker color bearer led all the way. gamely and successfully resisting the menacing closing challenge of the much-raced Timothy J. Hogan. which has only been once outside of the money in his last nine starts, without, however, a winning bracket to his credit. At the eighth post it appeared as if Timothy J. Hogan would win. but just as he got 011 even terms with the leader lie tired and lost a close decision. Lucie May scored a lucky victory in the third , race. After leading by a wide margin to the last eighth, she tiled suddenly and, in a twinkljng, a ton-lengths, nL dwindled -inro!rrlthKMwtlftTMiss Wright just, failing to overtake her as the winning line was crossed. Le Ralafre. the favorite, was close by, finishing fastest of all after beginning slowly. After being outrun in the early part of the fifth race ltill Ilunley came from the rear with a fine display of speed and. overtaking the leader in the stretch, fought it out gamely in tin-last eighth to win -drawing clear. Rut for excessive use in racing Ed Garrison and Senator James into defeat in the first half. Scarpia II. would probably have .won. However, his early efforts told when hard pressed by the ultimate winner. Jockey F. Hunt made it a double when he brought home I.aiiat an easy winner in the final race of the afternoon. Hunt had previously ridden Rlaze-away to victory in the fourth race. He had no trouble scoring witli Lariat, as tin? latter held his opponents safe throughout. Mose Goldblatts imported three-year-old colt Atta Roy II.. regarded as one of the best horses in the handicap division at Oriental Park, is one of the horses Senor E. Alvarez is contemplating buying fiom Mr. Gohlblatt. However, the horse sustained injuries this afternoon that may cause his temporary retirement from racing. While being worked between the first and second races the horse collided with another near the three-quarters post and. after unseating the rider, galloped around the track to the paddock gate, where he jumped over the iron uate and sustained a slight cut on the knee and stifel, injuries which caused the blood to flow freely. The exercise boy escaped with minor hurts. Mihlicd was claimed out of the sixth race by Mariana. Stable for ,100. Thomas Monahau, owner of the stable being trained by T. II. Mc-Avoy, arrived Tuesday from New York on an extended visit. Jockey. Atkinson was forced to cancel his engagements to ride OMalley and Sir Edgar owing to illness. Jockey 15. Kennedy, who has been on the ailing list for several days, is rapidly improving.
