JUMPERS SCHOOL AT BOWIE Cant Kost Candle Canso and Nonus Being Educated for Steeplechasing BALTIMORE Md March r Richard Pending superintendent of the Powie course is developing a juniper which may give a good account of him ¬ self in the stceplechasing of the coming spring season The horse is Cant Kost by Cantilever Koster Girl imported to the United States by C E Clement a Marylander Cant Kosts sire Avas a famous distance runner in England defeated Tracery in the Jockey Club Stakes of 1913 and last year sent to the English races a threeyearold filly called Bracket Avhich Avon tlie Cesarewitch in 34C the fastest time on record for two and a quarter miles Brackets record was two and three fifths seconds better than the American record Ethelbert made Avhen lie AVOH the Brighton Cup of 1900 Ethelbert holds the American record for two and a quarter miles milesCant Cant Kost is a bay well proportioned and sound Pending Avon flat races with him at llagerstown and Tinioniuni last year and decided late last fall to put him through the field There is no steeple ¬ chase course at Bowie so Pending AVho Avas a steeplechase rider of skill before he became the track superintendent constructed three steeple ¬ chase jumps of tlu regulation height and Avidth after the fashion of the conventional Liverpool Cant Kost has taken these fences twentyfive or thirty times in the course of the Avinter with Pend ¬ ing on his back and has yet to make his first mis ¬ take He fences naturally and Pending Avill make engagements for him in crosscountry races to be run in Maryland and aliout New York YorkThere There arc three other jumpers schooling Avell in Pendings abbreviated field They are Candle Nonus and Canso of tho Fonnan stable Candle is a veteran Canso AVIS one of Commander Ross importations of a few years ago Nouns is a four yearold that raced in Maryland last fall
