BON HOMMES IMPROVEMENT Wins From End to End and Regains Derby Favor John S Reardon Makes a Dis ¬ appointing Debut as a Three Year Old LEXINGTON Ky April 29 The Xnlapa Farms representative Bon Homme which came here held highly esteemed as a possible Kentucky Derby win ¬ ner then disappointed sadly by a pair of poor performances figured further this afternoon by winning in the most impressive manner from some good ones that included Jouett Ben Valet and John S Reardon when starting in the mud Bon Hommes race today was a vast improvement over his previous essays here and it must have been due to tlie fact that he made the running from tlie start withoHt having serious contention at any time He raced into a long lead immediately on reaching the first turn and continuing in runaway style made a show of his opposition to ultimately win as his rider pleased Jouett under hard riding gained steadily and overhauled the others but in no sense threatened the winner Ben Valet which had followed Bon Homme closest in the early racing took third place Thg race also had its disappointment in the poor showing of John S Keardon Because of his wellknown ability to run well in muddy going he was held in high favor and he started Aut flatteringly but he met with inter forrcotTvrliVrr JJen Vuler furpeirliimbccK Hliurpjy just after rounding the first turn He recovered somewhat but in tlie next quarter he began drop ¬ ping back and finished badly beaten His showing this afternoon precludes his possibility of winning the Kentucky Derby and it is doubtful if he will be a starter in it itThe The afternoon started bleak and cold and it had a tendency to decrease the attendance but as the the hours progressed came improvement The heavy rains of the night and the early hours this morning caused tlie track to again become sticky arid holding suited to tlie most pronounced mud runners runnersThe The feature consisting of a threequarters han ¬ dicap resulted in tlie main upset of the afternooii In tlie failure of Brookholt a stable companion to John S Keardon He landed in third place being led to the finisli by Minute Man and Columbia Tenn Tlie winner displayed sudden and vast im ¬ provement over his preceding races here hereMelvin Melvin carried the Williams Bros colors to vic ¬ tory in the opener but only after a stubbornly contested battle on tlie part of Sure which suc ¬ cumbed in tlie last strides stridesAlameda Alameda Girl had little difficulty in the second race in winning as her rider pleased and Planet duplicated his success of several days ago by win ¬ ning the mile and a quarter dash dashMartha Martha Fallen a firsttime starter won the fifth race and A Bakers colors were carried to victory in tlie final dash when Apli scurried home in front of the others othersMADCAP MADCAP HAS FOAL BY FAIR PLAY PLAYThe The noted brood mare Madcap for which Harry Ff Sinclair is said to have paid 35000 foaled this morning at Nursery Stud a brown colt which is a brother to Mad Hatter the youngster being sired by Fair Play It is said that at the time of sale of Madcap that Mr August Belmont reserved the rights to the mares produce of this year yearAt At E Cebrians Keenland Farm there has ar ¬ rived up to the present eight colts and one filly an unusual percentage in favor of the colts coltsDick Dick Thompson will send one carload of E R Bradley owned horses to Churchill Downs Sun ¬ day including the Derby cligibles for it is the trainers desire to give his intended starters in tlie big race their final workout over the Churchill Downs track trackGodfrey Godfrey Preece was an arrival this morning in quest of suitable material for jumpers He secured some horses at Wheeling W Va that will be schooled through the field fieldII II C Bud Fisher of Mutt and Jeff fame and owner of Muskallonge and other good horses was among the arrivals today from New York and will remain in Kentucky for an indefinite period periodTlie Tlie program book embracing the first eight days of racing at Churchill Downs was distributed to owners here this morning morningE E R Bradley was advised this morning by Harry Morrissey at Tijuana that the contract on jockey Parkes services had not been consummated because of complications as a result of the Nevada Stock Farm claiming a call on the riders services servicesTrainer Trainer J C Milam stated this afternon that J N Camdens Rangoon would not be started in tlie Kentucky Derby DerbyAfter After Lazy Lous poor showing in the third race jockey Pollard was questioned by the stewards Her dull race was attributed to the muddy track trackJockey Jockey E Martin was suspended for five days by tlie stewards for his rough riding in the sixth race while astride Ben Valet
