LOUISVILLES MUD RACING Does Not Prevent a Capital At ¬ tendance Being Present H E Coleman Takes the Main MainRace Race Jockey Wida and a aChicago Chicago Bettor in Trouble LOUISVILLE Ky May 20 Hard rains of this morning added to the drenching that the Churchill Downs track received in tho night caused the going to lie about the worst of the present meeting and favored pronounced mud runners There was noth ¬ ing outstanding in the way of a feature on the card the 1500 mile purse serving as the head liner and it resulted in an easy victory for H E Coleman tho highly regarded maiden from the S K Nichols stable The early part of the race was a stubbornly fought battle witli Adonis Advouato nnd Buddie Kean running on even terms at a heart ¬ breaking pace paceH H E Coleman joined them just before reaching the stretch and shot by them soon afterward like a flash Buddie Kean gave him stubborn chase in the stretch but he was unequal to the task though he had little difficulty in outstaying Advocate for second place The winner was ridden by S Wida and it is probably his last victory for some time as the stewards soon afterward announced his sus ¬ pension for a grave offense Wida in a preceding race had also piloted the victor Wild Flower which had triumphed by a small margin over Korbly a pronounced favorite Wida here was guilty of keeping Korbly in close quarters during most of the stretch running and the backers of Korbly indulged in hopes of AVild Flowers dis ¬ qualification but the stewards left theTcsult ac ¬ cording to the finish though steward Price had a lengthy interview with the respective riders of Wild Flower and Korbly KorblyAnother Another upset came with the running of the third nice in which Sandy Mac figured as the outstand ¬ ing favorite but he was beaten by Texas Special which improved suddenly and led from the start Sandy Mac was lacking in ins customary early sliced and the diminutive Scobie who had the mount was unequal to making him extend himself until tho field straightened away for the stretch drive where Sandy Mac came at his best pace but he missed the victory by a half length lengthThe The second race in which twoyearolds con ¬ tested brought with it one of the closest finishes of tho meeting Colossus winning by a nose from Sun Time with Hermoden only i nose further back llermoden was the favored one and best but Smallwood could not do him justice justiceANOTHER ANOTHER FOR SPEEDY JEANNE BOWDRE BOWDREJeanne Jeanne Bowdrc the speedy filly in the J O and H Keene stable added another victory to her list when she won the sixtli race from Whirl Bnrrett who rode her gave the fillys backers nuite a sensation when he licgan casing her up failing to note the oncoming Whirl and it was some time before he got her to going again fully nnd it was some task for her to outfinish Whirl WhirlConsidering Considering the adverse weather before racing time an exceptionally good attendance was on hand to view the sport sportThe The stewards made an investigation of the charges preferred by joekey J D Mooney that Mack Garner had grasped his saddle cloth and other ¬ wise attempted to impede his mount during the running of the seventh race on Tuesday Mooney In the presence of Garner and the stewards re itrrated his charge stating that the offense com ¬ plained of occurred between the halfmile post and the head of the stretch Garner stoutly denied the charge and stated that he did not touch either Mooney or his mounts equipment in any manner that iu the contrary Mooney attempted to im ¬ pede him by forcing him to the rail The point at which Mooney says the interference occurred was patrolled and closely observed by both patrol judge Phillips and stewird A J Leonard neither of which saw any of the interference complained if and both of which are certain they would have Been it if it bad occurred Tin charge lacking corroboration was dismissed dismissedEdward Edward Slattcry of Chicago was warned off the course by tho stewards under the provision of rule 211 This was the result of an investigation by the setwards into certain transactions on the course between Slattcry and jockey S Wida Slat ¬ tcry admitted winning a large bet on Randcl a twoyearold belonging to Joe Hawkins and that Wida told him to bet on tho horse Wida ad ¬ mitted to telling him and that Slattery had given him 500 after the race Ho also admitted that ho had advised him to hot on other horses Joe Hawkins testified that the money given to Wida was given without his knowledge or consent and that he had never seen Slattery Wida was sus ¬ pended indefinitely indefinitelyWalter Walter Lilley again had to cancel his riding en lagomonts on account of illness illnessBolihcd Bolihcd Hair has been sold privately by E 11 Bradloy to J IS Sweeney SweeneyJockoy Jockoy Barrett had to cancel his engagement on Sun Time in tho second race on account of almost boing blinded by mud while riding Wislimakcr in the initial dash
