MORE RAIN AT THORNCLIFFE Wholesale Scratching Reduces Size of Fields Main Race to The Desert TORONTO Out June 3 A heavy rain early this morning converted the track at Thorncliffe Park into a sea of mud for the racing this after ¬ noon and wholesale scratching followed The sixth race intended as the feature attraction suf ¬ fered greatly in this respect and was reduced to four starters P W Barnes The Desert found the going to his liking and made a show of his op ¬ ponents winnig in a romp after leading practically from the start The real excitement came in the contest for second place which Louis earned in the last stride strideJohns Johns Umma pulled up to almost a walk ac ¬ counted for the third race Donald J also scored in most decisive style in winning the second for Canadianbred horses Terrible Susan and Dancing Girl came from behind to win their respective rcos in driving finishes The saddle slipped on Dancing Girl and Hinphy finished riding bareback After being outpaced to the stretch turn by Sea Way Yermak moved up and held the Weant rep ¬ resentative safe in the run home homeBesthoff Besthoff was badly cut down in his last race hero and will be on the Khelf for some time E W Moore lias since decided to ship his stable to Fort Erie at the close of the racing here hereThe The weather conditions improved as the afternoon progressed and the attendance was of the usual midweek day proportions
