PICKWICK gradually improved his position from a slow beginning and outstayed ARROWHEAD in the final drive. ARROWHEAD moved up gamely when entering the stretch, but tired in the dual eighth. LUCKY BUTTON was crowded back immediately after the start and was forced to come wide when entering the stretch, but finished fast and close up. PENITENT, away well, displayed speeil for a half mile, then gave way and swerved to the inside. SHERANDO and MARY PATRICIA closed up fast in the stretch drive. AUDACIOUS followed the early leader under slight restraint until straightened away in the .stretch, where he quickly passed SMOKE SCREEN when called 011 and won easing up. SENNINGS PARK was in a forward position for the entire race and made a fast and game finish. IDLE DELL gradually improved her position on the outside and, finishing with a bl-lated rush, wore SMOKE SCREEN down in the last strides. The latter set a fast pace and saved much ground on the urns, but tired badly in the final eighth. GLADIATOR was forced back at the start and finished resolutely. THUNDERSTORM saved ground on the turns. PENROSE began badly and tired after closing a gap and racing up into third place.
