UNRELIABLE HIGH COST WINS Believe Idle Hour Breaks Down in the Race Cho Cho an Easy Victress. LATONIA. Ky.. July S. High Cost, which in his last previous race finished last, furnished a surprise this afternoon by winning the ,000 three-quarters handicap with the utmost ease from Marvin May and By Jolly and covered the distance in 1:11. one of the fastest races at this meeting. He might not have won had Believe Idle Hour not broken down, her elimination coming as a result of a giving way in the front tendon, which has been under suspicion for some time. Her last two races, however, were such as to give promise that she would continue her winning ways with care. Owner Bradley today, however, must have had a change of opinion, for he made it known before her start this afternoon that this would mark her last appearance under colors and regardless how she performed it meant her retirement. At the time she gave way she was well in the lead and displaying her .customary brilliant speed. High Cost was her closest attendant and when she broke down took up the pacemnking and racing into a long lend in the stretch won as his rider pleased. The lightly weighted Marvin May held gamely to his task and hud little difficulty in beating By Golly home for second place. Biookholt. which won the race on the occasion that High Cost was beaten off. was never dangerous this afternoon and his stable companion. Rouleau, outstayed him at the end. Believe Idle Hour galloped on to the finish, but her elimination was complete with her mishap. She ruled an overwhelming favorite. She will be shipped to Idle Hour Farm next week and will be bred to one of the Bradley stallions. Another surprisingly large attendance viewed the decision of the ordinary card provided today. Strong breezes tempered the heat and made conditions for the sport more pleasant. Overthrows of favorites were frequent after the victory of Botheration in the opener, and his success was only by a matter of inches, Humphrey having him beaten ten yards from the finish, but lie began Ixiring in and in his efforts tq keep him straight Roberts in some fashion mismanaged it, and thus enabled Botheration to .get up again to win by a nose. Salamander was a pronounced choice in the second race, but the recently acquired Mooresqne carried the Mrse Goldblutt colors home to a neck victory. Salamander striving his utmost to outstay the onrushing Field Lark. Doubt us to Clio Clios ability to go a mile at top sjieed caused II. E. Coleman to be installed the favorite, but again came disappointment for the smart set, as Cho Cho won as his rider pleased from Advocate, which held H. E. Coleman safe during the entire Rice. Young Adam was best liked of the twelve ordinary oues that started in the mile and an eighth dash, but Lyke here proved the stumbling block, for he brought Virgo home a nose in advance of Young Adam. Riders reversed the latter womd have won. Believe Idle Hour contributed extensively to the woes of the backers and Berniee K., ny her failure to land better than third, caused a further depletion of their bank rolls. Birdie G. again figured in a winning performance. She won the dash in which Berniee K. was the favored one. Cut Up completed the disaster for the backers when she finished an easy winner of the closing race, with Miss Fontaine and Ace staging a spirited duel for the place honors. The latter pair were the favored ones in the race. A splendid program has been prepared for the closing day tomorrow with the Daniel Boone Handicap of 0,000 added as the stake attraction. It looks like a royal battle between Exterminator and The Porter.
