J BARGAINS FOR A MERE SONG Small Prices Realized for A. K. Macombers Offering of Aristocratic French-Bred Horses. SARATOGA. X. Y., August 0. Good bargains were secured here Saturday night at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sales ring, when the consignment of A. K. Macomber. which had been sent from France, was offered for sale. It rood mares of royal lineage, some with foals at side, elicited but listless competition and ultimately were knocked Jown at what was considered bargain prices. Then-is no accounting for these small prices, unless it oubl bo put down to the fact that it -was an off night, such as comes now and then, or that there was general unfamiliarity with tlie pedigrees of the offerings. War Star, which, in a -Kentucky Derby trial, finished before North Star, according to the statement of trainer W. P.. Jennings, and which is the Viro of several foals, went to 11. TV Oxnard for the significant suni of S3.100. Tchad, winner of the rix du Jockey Club of 191! French Derby, worth l.13ri,rcr francs, went to Krownell Coombs for f3,100.
