POPULAR SARATOGA FEATURE Merchants and Citizens Handicap, with Fine Entry List, to Be Run August 27. Inaugurated in l!0l as a one and onc-sixteentli mile race, it was chanced the following year to one mile and an eighth and in l!Uo was again altered to its present distance. The Merchants and Citizens has always attracted the best of the three-year-olds and over division and many distinguished names are inscribed on itn roster of winners. Among these are Ilermis, IJuu-ning Water, Sir John Johnson, ltoamer, The Finn, Cudgel and Sir Barton, the latter its last years winner. The record time for the present distance, lr7-Jf,. was made by Midway in 191S. There are eighty-three nominations for the forthcoming renewal, and the aristocracy of the older horses. East and West, are included in the nomination. K. R. Bradley has live entered, including the two good four-year-olds Rest Pal and Rusy Signal and the three-year-old Rlack Servant. 1. A.
