* - - KENTUCKY DERBY GALLOPS LEXINGTON, Ky.. April 22.— II. II. Hewitts Kentucky Derby candidate Washington this morning worked a mile and a quarter in 2:10 with Jockey Danny Connelly In the saddle. Time by quartern was: 23%, 47%, 1:01, 1:1." , 1:41%, 1:55%, 2:10. The last quarter he waa pulling op. The dockers comment is "Easily and extra good." Startle worked the first mile with Washington and was driving In 1:41%. Advocate from the same stable and also eligible to the Derby worked a mile and an eighth in 1:55%, the first mile in 1:40. This was an extra good move, generally considered the best of the day. Advocate is a candidate for the Bea All Handicap on the opening date and the Camden Handicap on the closing day of the spring meeting. Rockminister and Surf Rider, two eligibles to the Derby in Kay Spences stable, worked together a mile in 1 :*■. Pool was on Rock-minister and Scobie on Surf Rider. Rock-minister did his mile easily, while Surf Rider was driving. The latter is not a work horse. The performances were extra good for both. T. C Bradleys Yosiiimi did seven-eighths in 1 :*!%. George F. Bakers John Finn cantered a half mile in 61% Rouleau and Ginger from the Kay Spence stable did a mile, the former In 1:4#% and the latter in 1:42%, both driving. Miss Joy worked three-quarters In 1:15% eased up, with Scobie up, the first three-eighths in 31 and the first half in 47-.-,. _ »
