May 8 The hopes of several Preakness candidates went glimmer ¬ ing in the third race at one mile and seventy yards here today and while not the most valuable of the afternoons races excited the most interest as in the field were several threeyearolds of which much was expected St Henry was accorded the position of favor ¬ ite but proved unequal to the task and the finish found the Jones nominee no better than third June Grass was away flying and set a hot pace until the sixteenth post was reached where Pirate Gold sneaked through on the inside and in a hard drive got up to win by a nose in the final stride June Grass had no difficulty in saving second place and St Henry was an easy third by twelve lengths lengthsIdeal Ideal racing conditions served to attract an exceptionally large throng for Monday They were well rewarded and enjoyed some spirited racing the finishes being of the hairraising kind kindThe The Garden City Selling Stakes worth 2 650 to the winner resulted in a
