LADY MADCAPS GOOD RACE Takes the Lexington Feature from Rouleau in Fast Time Fair Agnes Wins for Owner Cam den Fine Weather and a Fast Track Mark the Day LEXINGTON Ky May 8 Lady Madcap owned by the wellknown Kentucky publisher Desha Breckinridge scored her second victory of the meeting when she won the Lexington Purse at a mile and a sixteenth the stellar offering on todays card defeating Rouleau and Tableau dHonneur in a fast and game effort in which she had to overcome the bad ¬ ly judged ride that J Howard gave her She was in a badlooking pocket during the first quarter of the race Tableau dHonneur being directly in front of her and Rouleau ranged midway between the leader and Lady Mad ¬ cap To have taken her back would have en ¬ tailed a loss of ground for Howard so he remained in the close quarters with the filly under sharp restraint but finding that his waiting to get through would be unavailing Howard took her back and came around the others just before reaching the stretch When called on she responded gamely but was forced to do her best at the end to shake off Rouleau The latter passed Tableau dHon ¬ neur with ease when called on and secured second place Blarney Stone and Pit the only other starters in the race were never prominent prominentBalmy Balmy summer temperature weather and a fast track were contributing elements towards another record attendance and to improve ¬ ment in the sport The program however lacked brilliancy five of the races being under claiming conditions and bringing to the post ordinary contenders albeit they were well matched After suffering by the failure of Archie Alexander in the opener backers of favorites had a full measure of success as choices won with regularity regularityTHBILLER THBILLER IN OPENING DASH DASHThe The opener produced a thriller in which Icon and Grace Minard figured Icon was somewhat of a good thing and kept pace with the good form that has been established by the starters from the C T Worthington stable at this meeting Icon led from the start but near the end he was put to a severe drive to outfihish Grace Minard The latter was at a long price Archie Alex ¬ ander would seemingly not extend himself and he just failed to outstay Philanderer Dr Carmen in this race was sluggish in the early running but finished close up upThe The success of favorites began in the sec ¬ ond race when Hal Price Headleys Hopeless sprinted away from eleven other twoyear olds that competed and won in hollow style from Bess L and Stone Age The winner is a better colt than his performance showed for he was on the extreme outside at the start and had to make a big sweep around the others He came with a rush in the stretch and sprinted by the leader Bess L with ease easeG G L Berrymans colors were carried to victory in the third race when his Tulalip enabled J Howard to ride the first of his two winners both being saddled by S Che nault Tulalip was best and had to be rid ¬ den hard for a brief period but she came away with ease in the last eighth to win from Evelyn White which ran in improved form over her previous race raceJohnson Johnson M Camdens good filly Fair Agnes displayed a capital performance in the fourth race for which she was an overwhelming favorite and won as her rider pleased from Victoire which in turn beat Miss Minerva The latter was tiring badly but was good enough to outstay her stablemate Corto The lastnamed is far from the good filly she was at New Orleans OrleansBAT BAT BODINES BAD LUCK LUCKOnly Only bad racing luck was responsible for May Bodines defeat in the sixth race for she was much the best but suffered defeat by a margin of a neck primarily clue to her slow beginning in which the failure of the barrier to function played a part Col Taylor turned up as the winner showing for the first time a good performance over the track and an inclination to hold on more gamely than is usual with hirn hirnClintonville Clintonville under J D Mooneys good rid ¬ ing was successful in the closing dash from Tody chiefly through the incompetency of B Scheffel who raced the latter into exhaus ¬ tion in the first threequarters and had noth ¬ ing left to withstand the challenge from Clin ¬ tonville Rep was going fast at the end and overhauled the others for third place placeThere There was considerable rejoicing at the Idle Hour Stock Farm because of the arrival of a colt out of Vaila sired by Black Toney He Continued on twelfth paje LADY MADCAPS GOOD SACE Continued from first page is a brother to the fast Miss Jemima JemimaArthur Arthur Slaughter one of the old guard of mutuel employes died this morning after a short illness illnessH H H Hewitts Washington is definitely out of the Kentuclcy Derby having developed ankle trouble
