ITETRWS PRODUCE STAKE Youngster of American Blood BloodTakes Takes Rich Sandown Prize Greenfinch Which Kan Third Also Has American Strain Thrilling Finish Seen BY E E COUSSELL COUSSELLLONDON LONDON England April 23 One of the most valuable twoyearold events of the spring is the Sandown Park Stud Produce Stakes run over a straight fiveeighths It has often been won by horses destined to make turf history and possibly more will be heard of some of the runners at Sandown on May 21 21The The race this year was worth 7500 to the winner There were nine runners The favorite Blazoner had made a big impres ¬ sion at Liverpool but was closely pressed in the betting by Greenfinch reported to ba J B Joels best twoyearold I rather doubt it itThere There were also two youngster by The Tetrarch in the field Early on the morn ¬ ing of the race I heard that one of them would probably win and this proved to bo the case There was a poor start Green ¬ finch was left some lengths yet he man ¬ aged to finish a closeup third to Tetragon and Scyphius It was a thrilling race be ¬ tween the filly and the colt and Tetragon won by a short head with Greenfinch beaten two lengths Blazoner ran well but he was not good enough Unfortunately the bad start prevented a proper revelation of the merits of some of the other competitors competitorsTetragon Tetragon which was bred by her owner Lord Furncss is a chestnut filly by The Tetrarch Decagone the dam of Prince Gala ¬ had which was a race horse of the highest class as a twoyearold His leg gave way early in his second season and he is now at the stud where his services are in much demand demandTETRAGOX TETRAGOX FOALED Iff FRANCE FRANCEIt It was on account of the excellence of Prince Galahad that the Due Decazes the owner of Prince Palatine made especially favorable terms for Lord Furness to send Decagone to France in which country Tetra ¬ gon was foaled The mare was mated with Prince Palatine and in 1921 produced the bay colt Platinum which is therefore a brother to Prince Galahad There have been two other Tetrarch fillies from Decagone but neither of them has run with any promi ¬ nence nenceMr Mr Peard bought Decagone for Lord Fur ness in 1918 paying 14000 for her Formerly she belonged to Lionel Robinson Of course at that time Prince Galahad had not re ¬ vealed his brilliance Decagone is only a pony She herself won the Brocklesby Stakes and another race as a twoyearold but never raced afterward She is by Marta gon Desca by Desmond Her granddam High Feather was by Henry of Navarre High Tea by Rayon dOr Ella T by War Dance and so the subsequent career of Tetragon will possess much interest for American breeders breedersScyphius Scyphius belongs to The Tetrarchs owner Major McCalmont He is the first foal of Lamb Mint by Spearmint Scotch Gift dam of Tetratema Scyphius is a gray like his worldfamous relative and he may eventu ¬ ally prove to be as good His next running will be closely watched watchedGreenfinch Greenfinch will also appeal to American breeders for he is by Sunstar from the Hagginbred Fringilla which is by Gold ¬ finch from La Paz by St Blaise Mr Joel imported Fringilla as a yearling in 1904 She ran as a twoyearold when she was placed but failed to win She has produced several winners for Mr Joel but none of them of much merit
