PIMLICO NEXT SCENE Maryland Jockey Club Begins Fall Meeting This Afternoon. Rich Manly Memorial Steeplechase Opening Attraction of Inviting Program. BALTIMORE, Md., October 30. The Manly Memorial Steeplechase, the richest jumping race in Maryland, is offered by the Maryland Jockey Club for the opening attraction of the eleven-day meeting which opens at Pimlico tomorrow afternoon. In connection with this great race through the field a program in keeping with the occasion and up to the high standard maintained in the past has been arranged. For the Manly Memorial, with its added value of 0,000, a field of fourteen starters has been named to go the two miles and a half journey. The best of the steeplechase brigade still in training are among the prospective starters and a spectacular contest is expected. C. K. Harrison, Jr.s, Sea Tale is asked to carry the top weight of 157 pounds, while Earlocker is in the lightest at 131. The race is under handi. cap conditions and will be run as the second of tomorrow afternoon. The Arlington Handicap, at three-quarters mile, has an entry list of seventeen starter, recruited from the best sprinters, three-year-olds and over, and with such as Tryster, Knobbie, LEffare, Little Chief, Prudery, Dry Moon, Bigheart. Missionary, and others, a display of extreme speed should be witnessed during the running of that race. The smallest fields of the afternoon are in the mile and a sixteenth Sudbrook Park Purse and in the mile and an eighth of the Belvidere Purse. What they lack in numbers, however, is offset by the good ciuality of those named. RACINf! 31 AT Hit I A L lLENTIF lTL. Predictions are for clear skies and Pimlico will undoubtedly be called upon to entertain a tremendous gathering. The stable accommodations have been taxed to the utmost and several stables have been forced to seek quarters on the outside. I The influx from New York, coUpled with the already large number of horses moved j over from Laurel Park, brings the number of horses in this vicinity to upward of j a thousand. There have been quite a few improvements at Pimlico since the spring meeting which will be appreciated by the public. The track is decidedly fast and at its best. Arrivals yesterday included J. Evans, E. Sietas, J. Nicholson, C. Sanford, J. E. Madden, S. McNaughton. W. II. Hoas, AV. Karrick with the Oneck and AV. R. Coo stables, J. Ma.r-Manus, W. Freeman, S. J. Casey, AAr. Covin -ton with the Montfort Jones Pimlico Futurity candidates Oui Oui and Pegasus. The horses will be called to the pest for the first race at 1:15 p. m. each day, which will allow sufficient. time to run the last rac long before darkness. The post position will be the same as the horses number on the program. .Trainer Eugene AVayland has entered E terminator in the Thanksgiving Day Handicap to be run at Bowie this fall.. AY. E. Martin arrived from Toledo with the platers Blue Ribbon and North AYales. John Pangle at private terms had purchased from F. Musante the horses Fair Virginia and Troubler. Both will be shiiP d to Havana at the conclusion of this meeting. AATilliam Knapp arrived from New York with the plater Lucky Antoine. Before leaving New York Knapp had the plater Aispa fired and concluded arrangements to ship four others he has in training for different owners to New Orleans. SAVIXKK INCItKASES STABLE. A. Swinke added to his stable this morning by the purchase of Minute Man frcm S. Louis and the two-year-old Belphrlzo it from R. McKeever. Both horses were bought at private terms. J. Healy" arrived with the Chost rhro jc Stable. Healy reports that his brother J. Simon has twenty-eight yearlings at Be.m mt Park, where they will be wintered for the Synelicate Stable. Roy Gordon has been appointed by the officials to leael the parade to the pest in all races. AVashington Noryell was an arrival frori Toledo, where he was one of the cfiiciuls of that meeting. A. Ar.
