FAVORITES IN THEIR GLORY Six First Choices Successful at Tijuana Saturday Prince Direct and Rcgreso Finish First and andSecond Second for C B Invin In InFeature Feature Attraction SAX DIEGO Cal January 7 With a pair of sharp racing tools Prince Direct and Re gjeso C B Irwin the leading purse winner at the Tijuana track took a first and second Saturday in the feature race which was a handicap at one mile and seventy yards Katherine Rankin and Mollie Barnes were the Gates entry and for part of the distance these thoroughbreds held all the attention but when the real test came as they turned for home Prince Direct and Regreso which had raced within striking distance of the leaders usurped the advantage of the pacemakers and threw a lot of dust in the face of their opponents Despite defeat Katherine Ran ¬ kin which saved third place from War Penny ran a good race and had she had the form that was noted in her running a season back it might have been a different story but at the distance the mare was short and the effort should be of much bene ¬ fit to her in future engagements engagementsThat That the race public is responsive to long cards was demonstrated today when a big turnout passed through the portals for the program of eight races There was a heavy influx of weekend visitors and these with the regulars made the biggest Saturday crowd of the meeting meetingFavorite Favorite players found their path today a bed of roses for six first choices were vic ¬ torious during the afternoon In conse ¬ quence the books were dealt a fearful drub ¬ bing and the men who wielded the chalk re ¬ ceived the worst beating of the season seasonSECONDARY SECONDARY FEATURE TO KREWER KREWERHaving Having enough speed to withstand the be ¬ lated rush of Mcssines from the J K L i Ross stable Krewer saddled by J M Crane i was the winner of the secondary feature this 1 afternoon this being the seventh race at five and a half furlongs Oil Man was third There was a ton of money bet on Krewer he being held in such high esteem that he was supported to the practical exclusion of the rest His price was only half of even money The first race of the new year for two yearolds attracted much attention and these juveniles were the admiration of the big crowd as they paraded to the pest They were a wellbehaved band having had quite a lot of schooling at the barrier The distance was only threeeighths of a mile and the Neal Bartholomew stable had the satisfac ¬ tion of seeing its entry of Al Hotfoot and Josephine Newell run onetwo The former is a Semprolus colt and was away winging from a fast break in front of his stable com ¬ panion Josephine Newell is a daughter o Atheling II the imported English sire which stands at the head of the Nevada Stock Farm Stud Atheling II is scoring remarkable suc ¬ cess as a sire and each of his foals old enough to race up to January 1 has been a winner winnerJockey Jockey M Fator departed last night for Jobstown N J to report to Sam Hildrcth who recently purchased his contract from i Stuart Polk The champion rider of 1922 who won his laurels in a most sensational finish spent a busy day bidding good bye j to his many friends here and said that he i would always hold a soft spot in his heart for Tijuana the course that gave bun his saddle baptismal baptismalThe The following rule was posted by the stew ¬ ards this morning In order to secure th2 greatest possible adherence to the spirit as well as the letter of the claiming rule the attention of the horsemen is directed to the following points in the regulation in force by the Tijuana Jockey Club The sale of a horse after entry in a race is not valid for that race unless approved by the stewards stewardsThe The racing secretary is authorized to re ¬ ject the entry of a horse out of his class and palpably made solely for the purpose of claiming claimingWhere Where there is in the opinion of the stew ¬ ards sufficient indantity of interest to justify it they may direct the coupling of the horses horsesThe The requirement that a horse which has been claimed must not be entered by his new owner in the same class from which he was taken until after raced in a higher class is also continued in force forceThe The mare King Belle bred to Blind Bag ¬ gage which C B Irwin has turned out at Tijuana is due to have her foal within the next three weeks
