JOCKEYS SIGN FOR 1923 Saddle Stars Rapidly Making Connections for this Year 3IcAt e to Wear H P Whitney Colors Lang Remains With Cosden L raters ratersTo To anger Brother With Eancocas NEW YORK N Y January 7 Jockey I McAtee has been signed to ride for the Harry Payne Whitney stable this year McAtee Is a lightweight of long experience and he should be a valuable addition to the Whitney racng establishment He will have one of the best opportunities of his long service In the saddle with this stable and with L Penman as the other stable rider James Rowe is well supplied with riding talent talentSeveral Several of the prominent stables of the East have not yet made their jockey ar langements but there have been some impor tant contracts made for 1923 One of the ntost important was the signing of Lawrence M Fator by S C Hildrcth for the Rancocas Stable This gives Hildrcth a wonderfully strong jockey staff in Earl Sandc Laverne Fator and Lawrence M Fator FatorSome Some of the other jockeys that have al ¬ ready been signed are B Marinelli who will ride again for Max Hirsch who is training for various owners Charles Fairbrother will ride for W H Karrick who has the horses of W R Coe and II K Knapp Chick Lang and Clarence Kummer will again ride for J S Cosden whose horses are trained by the genial Virginian Billy Garth GarthSandy Sandy MsNaughton still holds the contract on Eddie Kummer the younger brother of Clarence and Alfred Johnson is again in the employ of Willis Sharpe Kilmer and will assist Eugane Wayhind in the preparation j of the horses at Sun Briar Court Fred Taral has si ° rncd Clarence Turner to ride for the Revicra Stable and he replaces Ted Rice with that establishment Scott Harlan has about made up his mind to sign Johnny McTaggart to ride for the Greentree Stable McTaggart made something of a hit with Harlan when he won with Romping Home at the Bowie meeting John Loftus has engaged Cliff Robinson to ride for the Oak Ridge Stable and John E Madden holds the contract on J McDer mott for the year It is expected that James Butwell will again ride for Walter J Sal ¬ mon whose horses are trained by T J Healey and C Taylor is under contract to ride for Walter M Jeffords whose horses are at Berlin Md where R A Smith has them in his care careOTHER OTHER HOLDOYERS HOLDOYERSAndy Andy Scanttinger remains a fixture with the Lexington Stable and Xalapa Farm and Roy Waldron continues to train for that racing confederacy Montfort Jones again has Kay Spsnce as his trainer and E Scobie as his jockey and Mack Garner is again under contract to J C Milam John Schorr has signed E Josiah again to ride the horses of Edward B McLean and John Callahan the old man of the saddle is still under con ¬ tract to William Maitin though Martin has so few horses that he will probably be seen in other silks more often C Ponce who rode for the Quincy Stable last year is under contract to E H Bradley Preston Uurch still has B Parke to ride the horses of the Nevada Stock Farm and A Claver Js under contract to ride the J K L Ross horses The big string that will be campaigned by the Canadian sportsman will be trained this year by both Henry McDaniel and his brother Will McDaniel Eddie Tapliri is still under contract to ride for A J Goldsborough and the horses he trains for Charles Stoneham Charles Thieriot and George H Bull BullJ J Simon Healy has a promising little lad in Raymond Bush who will ride the horses of the Syndicate Stable in 1923 and J Rowan has been signed by Edward F Whitney whose horses are in the care of W Irvine IrvineThere There hae been other contracts made for 1923 but these are some of the more impor ¬ tant Thus far no rider has been reported for either Joseph E Widener or for George D Widener Richard T Wilson is another without a lider though Butwell being en ¬ gaged to ride the Salmon horses is in the same racing establishment George Odom is left without a jockey for the Robert L Gerry horses by the signing of McAtee witn the IL P Whitney Stable and Gwyn Thomp kins has not reported any rider for the Glen Riddle Farm horses Major August Belmont is another who has not reported the engagement of a jockey for 1923
