FAILURE OF FAVORITES Wynnewood Beaten by Louis A in the Main Race Worthmore an Exceedingly Fast FastTwo Two Year Old Sewell Combs CombsWins Wins at Last and Easily NEW ORLEANS La January 26 Louis A claimed by his present owner from a selling race contributed another purse to help pay his purchase price and incidentally graduated into the handicap division by tak ¬ ing the measure of Wynnewood in the mile and a sixteenth handicap which featured the card His success was of the fluky order and due in a measure to lack of alertness displayed by Lang who rode Wynnewood At that the pair fought it out through the last sixteenth with Louis A just getting the verdict Episode landed in third place The disappointment in the race was Ameri ¬ can Boy which was decidedly devoid of speed this afternoon and was always a dis ¬ tant last In his preceding race he Avon from Servitor and in his race before that he almost nipped Parader ParaderThere There was abundance of the better racers here on todays card The backers were again off in deductions judging by the frequency favorites were overthrown All the choices were in eclipse but the victory in several second choices took away the layers profits and in some instances brought a loss to the fortyeight price quoters who responded to the call this afternoon afternoonC C T Worthington uncovered in the opener what is probably the best twoyearold here this winter in his Worthmore a flashy look ¬ ing chestnut colt by Thunderer Lady Moonet n half brother to Jack Hare Jr and several other winners The colt displayed extreme speed throughout and never left the result in doubt The showing of Black Gold was off color Burke his rider took him up at the start and through the deepest portion of the track resulting in Edna V beating him for second place placeFAST FAST TIME RECORDED RECORDEDIt It was rumored that Black Gold since his last race had picked up a nail and that as a result his trainer could not give him the needed work to put him in his best racing trim The time of the race 34 is within a fraction of the track record for the dis ¬ tance and the fastest of the present meeting meetingBurke Burke showed a different style of riding in the second race in which he had the mount on Childs Play which he rushed into a good lead at once and undsr hard riding succeeded in outstaying Poor Sport Poor Sport was unlucky to get away poorly and additionally was ridden wide The favorite here was Admirer AdmirerSewell Sewell Combs accounted for the third race He made a runaway affair of it and won as his rider pleased from Paul Micou and Alex II IIThe The mile dash for threeyearold enabled Majority to score Incidentally Lang rode a good race on him and it marked the first victory that the rider has scored this week Briand landed in second place showing vastly improved form over his last race raceRamkin Ramkin after appearing hopelessly out of any chance electrified the spectators by his great stretch sprint that carried him to victory by the margin of a nose over Tody The latter seemed to have the race secure when a sixteenth out outLUCKY LUCKY FOR CARMEXCITA CARMEXCITACarmcncita Carmcncita ridden by Owens scored in lucky fashion in the last race Incidentally it is his last race under apprentice allow ¬ ance that Owens will claim as his appren ¬ ticeship expires tomorrow Bolster was best in the race but could not overcome much interference and lost by a scant half length lengthGeorge George Chancellor deprived of track privi ¬ leges yesterday was restored to good stand ¬ ing this afternoon afternoonJohn John IJ McGce arrived last night from Tijuana with a view to buying some horses and immediately closed a deal with James McClelland for Bon llomme The price was not disclosed McGee will try to buy other useful ones particularly a threeyearold that could land the Derby Bon Homme will be pointed for the Coffroth Handicap The horses and others that McGee may buy will be shipped next week weekAccording According to information received this morning the Irish Free State will have the mutucl form of betting on its race tracks next year Authority for this statement comes from T J Duggan of Montreal who advised his partner Billy Dewar operating in the ring here that he had been success ¬ ful in securing a fiveyear mutuel concession from the Irish Free State government Ef ¬ forts in this direction heretofore have been fruitless on account of English objections
