TWOWEEKS REMAINING Then New Orleans Racing Closes Until Next November Louisiana Derby Becoming a Mat ¬ ter of High Interest Patron ¬ age Up to Expectations NEW ORLEANS La March 4 The local season is rapidly approaching its close for only two weeks more remain of the Jefferson Park meeting It will close March 17 with the running of the 10000 Louisiana Derby as the feature and a fitting climax to a highly successful racing season seasonThere There has been no noticeable slump in at ¬ tendance and the racing has been main ¬ tained to a good standard Reversals of form have been occurrences but they are inevit ¬ able at a long drawn out meeting and where poor class of horses are frequently compet ¬ ing ingChangeable Changeable trick conditions have also played their part and inexperienced riders have wrought disappointments On the whole there is little to criticize Summer temperature weather is again here and its continuance to the close is almost a cer ¬ tainty The weather this winter in these parts has been the most stable of any part in the country and the mildest that this city has known in years yearsThe The 010000 Louisiana Derby is becoming the leading topic of discussion among the turf people here Its value is highly attrac ¬ tive and as it is the aim of the Jefferson Park management to increase its endow ¬ ment annually it may eventually attract the attention of owners of the best threeyear olds and thereby create interest of wider scope among the countrys racing enthusiasts enthusiastsliXPKCT liXPKCT JOK STAIITKIIS STAIITKIISThis This years race closed with an entry list of twentyfive including all the best that are here It is expected that at least a dozen I starters will go to the post and with thej starting fee of 100 the winner will pull j i down about 9000 net netOwners Owners of prospective starters have al ¬ ready begun their quest for riders There j 1 will be some importations including Albert Johnson who will have the mount on one j of the KilmerIIollandShields starters John son is at present in Hot Springs getting in I riding condition and has according to re ¬ port requested permission to remain at the Arkansas Spa until time to report at Havre de Grace but Shields who is training the Kilmer horses here will probably veto John ¬ sons arrangement and have him come here to ride at least in the Derby DerbyMemphis Memphis has already began to take notice of the Derby and several of the sportsmen there are arranging to come down in a spe j cial car to witness the decision of the race The Crescent City Derby of long ago annu ¬ ally brought people here from afar and if the aim of the Jefferson Park management to add substantially each year to the en clownment of the Louisiana Derby is carried out there is no reason why it should not fall heir to the popularity of the Crescent City Derby Derby310HILI 310HILI ATTKACTS ATTENTION ATTENTIONThere There have been departures to Hot Springs but the Mobile meeting of eleven days to fol ¬ low that at Jefferson Park will keep many of the visitors here for it means an exten ¬ sion of the local racing season Mobile is only a short distance from here hereThe The business men of that thriving gulf port are not unmindful of the benefits de rived from racing and are planning accord ingly on an ambitious scale The racing now will be over a halfmile track recently reconstructed Next year it I is proposed to nave ready a mile track with uptodate appointments appointmentsThe The oOO stalls at the track have been prac ¬ tically spoken for and 250 horses are booked I Joseph A Murphy will have supervision of the racing and Malcolm N Macfarlan will be the racing secretary Purses of 500 600 and 700 will be the offering with six races daily dailyIt It is certain that at least twentyfive lay era will quote odds and the system in use here will be operated at Mobile MobileI I ist year there was a clearing up in re j gard to betting the courts holding that the system in use here and at Mobile is no vio j lation of the statutes J Hanover has taken over Kennmare in whose colors she will run Monday
