TRULY COSMOPOLITAN i Sundays Attendance at Havana Includes Many Tourists Thrilling Entertainment for the theBig Big Crowd Mary Reigel and andDuke Duke of Wellington Score HAVANA Cuba March 4 It was a truly cosmopolitan gathering at Oriental Park this afternoon with many tourists from all parts of the United States and Canada among the big throng that crowded grandstand club ¬ house and every available vantage point from which to see tho racing Ideal weather condi ¬ tions prevailed and the track was at its best The ilrst three races were at sprinting distances while the fourth fifth and seventh were at a mile and the sixth at a mile and I an eighth All four of the contests furnished interesting and spirited sport In the fifth race only a nose separated i Mary Reigel and Winnipeg at the end of a sensational finish The latter was the favorite and would have won but for the fact that his rider left the post with one of his feet out of the stirrup irons and could not do his mount full justice when the pinch came Miss Cailha had set the pace to the last eighth and after surrendering the lead j to Winnipeg fell back Then it was that i Mary Reigel challenged with the abovemen tioned result resulti i The mile and an eighth of the sixth race j provided quite an upset in the success of the unconsidered Carrure from the stable i of W F Knebelkamp the Louisville turf man The marc raced in a contending posi j tion from the start and after Indian Chant j tired from pacemaking moved to the front i and held Bounce safe in a busy finish finishAnother Another surprise came in the concluding dash when Duke of Wellington beat Stone ¬ j wall in a thrilling finish slipping through on j the inside and passing the favorite in the last few strides stridesANOTIIEH ANOTIIEH POR TONY EXPRESS EXPRESSThe The threeyearold Pony Express by Poly melian Jacoba which W R Coe disposed i of a few days ago to J W Pangle won at j the first asking for his new owner when he j j beat a band of fast sprinters in the third i race Pony Express was ridden by F Horn j and followed the pacemakers Sirocco and Ballynew to the stretch turn where he moved j I up fast and in a stirring finish got up to j win by a scant half length Ballynew was second by a nose in front of Miss Mazie The latter was pounds the best but when tho start came left the barrier slowly with Mil j ner taking her up She closed an immense j gap and working her way up on the out ¬ side was going two strides to the leaders one Sirocco which appears to be going back quit I after racing into a long lead in the early i j stages I stagesI Deertrail with G Williams in the saddle I proved best in the opener He began from i the inside position drew away rounding the i far turn but was quitting at the end and had to be hard ridden to withstand the i rush of Red and Mayrose At the finish he had a margin of three parts of a length over Mayrose which just managed to beat j Red for second place The latter finished in j the middle of the track while Mayrose was i next to the inside rail I The Cubanbred Cuba Encanto led all the way in the second and scored a lucky vic ¬ tory over Lank The winner saved ground j all the way while Lank was taken wide j 1 most of the way and was further handi capped by IMilner who was of no assistance to him when the finish came The colt was gaining on the leader on his own courage and with a stronger jockey in the saddle would have beaten him Happy Go Lucky broke down and pulled up hinie hinieAdvance Advance made all the pace in the fourth race Clements was forced to go to a drive at the eighth post to withstand the deter minued rush of Berretta which came through next to the inside rail but after getting to the leader she tired and Advance beat her by a half length King B and Conundrum finished fast and Lotta Speed the favorite stumbled just as the start came which in a measure was responsible for her defeat defeatAmong Among the recently arrived Americans who were at the track today for the first time were Mr and Mrs Philip Ritchey of the Gregorian Hotel New York Wm CJ Mar ¬ vin attorney of New York Dr Wm S Iloycc and Edwin S Dtiiulon of Reading Pa Mr and Mrs Charles F Burger of Saginaw Mich Albert T Montreuil collec ¬ tor of customs at Windsor Ont Frank H Barnwell of Memphis Tenn and Mrs Wal ¬ ter D Strang of Brooklyn N Y who is here visiting her aunt Mrs Edward Burke BurkeWilliams Williams Brothers sold Orris anil Sun God to J E Lewis and F S Cooper CooperF F Horn and V Milner were suspended three days by the starter for disobedience at the post
