6 FINE SPRING WEATHER Adds Zest to Training Operations at Louisville. - Trio of "Bud" Fisher Horses Work Well Keene Bros. Promising Stable. LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 27. Taking advantage of pleasant spring weather and improved trades, trainers of Kentucky Derby eligibles at both Churchill Downs and Douglas Park this morning sent their charges along at a merry clip at distances greater than any of the aspirants had been asked to traverse since the spring season of training commenced. "With the sun beaming from a cloudless sky and the breath of spring in the air, the morning was excellent for training operations, and the best work was done since the horses had emerged from their winter quarters. To Alex Gordon, trainer of the H. C. Fisher stable, fell the distinction of being the first to send his charges at a good pace over a mile route. His two Kentucky Derby colts, Mr. Mutt and Comic Artist, and his Kentucky Oaks candidate, Nellie Morse, were the ones to go the increased distance. They acquitted themselves to the entire satisfaction of their trainer. Nellie Morse and Mr. Mutt galloped together and the filly, getting the best of the start, easily led her stable companion all the way and covered the mile in 1:46. It took Mr. Mutt 1:47 to cover the mile, the fractional time being 27, 54, 1:20 and 1 :47"f.. No middle fractions were taken on Nellie Morses work as all of the watchers were timing Mr. Mutt. Comic Artist was then brought out and sent a mile, which he covered in 27, 54, 1:23 and 1:51. While nothing sensational was attempted the three moves showed the horses to be in capital condition ajid well advanced in their preparation. G1TSY KISQ mOMDTENT. At Churchill Downs chief interest centered in Gypsy King, Polo Grounds and Check, the three colts that "W. S. Walker is preparing for the Derby. They were sent together three-quarters in 1 :26 and pulled up in good fettle. Gypsy King, undoubtedly the best of the trio, raced forwardly all the way and easily outpaced Polo Grounds, his closest competitor, at the finish. Sanola and Glide, in the stable of Harned Bros. and Jones, were wcrked five-eighths and were under restraint all the way. King Gorin II. and Bourbon Boy were also given useful workouts at five-eighths. Altawood was worked in preparation for a short gallop Friday and on Sunday he will be asked to go a mile in good time. Black Gold, as usual, commanded much attention when, he galloped around the track a couple of times aiyl his fine appearance was freely commented upon. The son of Black Toney was full of desire to run and it took all of his riders efforts to hold him together. Wise Counsellor and Worthmore were also cantered for a couple of miles. They will be sent along for fast work at three-quarters Friday morning. T. M. MURPHY YISITOE. T. M. Murphy was a visitor at Douglas Park for the purpose of inspecting his band of two-year-olds that J. J. Flanigan has had quartered there all winter.
