McLEANS BENNING STABLE Washington Publisher Has Good Band of Horses in Training at Capital Race Track. WASHINGTON, D. C, March 28. When Edward B. McLean lost the good colt Hor-gan last fall there passed a colt that was looked upon as a particularly brilliant Kentucky Derby prospect. It was a serious blow to the stable, but John Schorr has a likely band at Benning that he will campaign for the Washington sportsman this year. There are an even dozen in the McLean string made up of six home-bred two-year-olds, four three-year-olds and the four-year-olds Comixa and Noel. In the three-year-old division Modest, a son of Colin and Shyness, is now considered as a Preakness possibility, while Gold Bug, one that was purchased from Harry Payne Whitney, is intended to bear the McLean silks in the running of the Kentucky Derby. The horses are all well advanced and the present intention is that they will have an early start in Maryland, probably at the Bowie meeting, to open Tuesday. Following is a list of those in the care of trainer Schorr: Comixa, br. f, 4, by Colin The Minx II., by Irish Lad. Xoel, b. c, 4, by Broomstick Christmas Star, by Star Shoot. Modest, ch. c, 3, by Colin Shyness, by His Majesty. Gold Bug, b. c, 3, by Broomstick Golden Kod, by All Gold. Off Spring, b. c, 3, by Vulcain Arlette, by Robert le Diable. There are two other two-year-olds in the stable, the names and breeding of which were not obtained.
