Ajiril 13.— Seven rich : stake events to be decided at the Ontario Jockey Clubs spring meeting at Woodbine ! Park from May 17 to May 24, have been an-I nounced by Secretary W. P. Fraser. These , stakes close Friday, May 2. As usual the Toronto Cup heads the list j with 0,000 added. This is followed by the Connaught Cup, ,000 added, for Canadian- ! owned horses ; the King Kdward Gold Cup. ,000 added ; Win. Hendrie Memorial, ,000 j added, for three-year-olds and upward, foaled I in Canada; Woodstock Plate, ,000 added, for three-year-olds ; Victoria Stakes, ,000 added, for two-year-olds ; Coronation Stakes, ,000 added, for two-year-olds foaled in J Canada. The two stakes for steeplechasing, viz.. j Woodbine Steeplechase. 0,000 added, and Aintree Steeplechase. ,000 added, the former at two and a half miles, and the latter about two miles, closed March 14 with seventy 1 and sixty-nine entries. In all, eleven stakes • of 8,000 will be decided at the coming meeting- There are handicaps and other races of ,000, ,500 and ,000. As is the custom at meetings of the Ontario Jockey Club, steeplechasing is a strong I feature, 0,500 being set aside for cross-! country racing, with ,000 the lowest value : of any overnight event.
