WALDEN HANDICAP WEIGHTS Valuable 0,000 Added Juvenile Fixture to Be Run at Pim-lico Friday, Nov. 14. BALTIMORE, MdL, Nov. 10. The Walden, for two-year-olds, to be run at Pimlico on Friday, November 14, is second only to the Pimlico Futurity in point of value, and by many is regarded as a more interesting race, as it is a handicap, and the colts and fillies are brought together on something like equal terms. The Walden, like the Futurity, is at a mile and was named in honor of that sterling sportsman and consummate trainer R. "Wynd-ham Walden, whose magnificent stock farm, Bowlingbrook, in Carroll county, Maryland, now carried on by his son, Robert J. "Walden, is one of the best appointed establishments of the kind anywhere. The elder Walden was a past master in handling two-year-olds, having trained the winner of many important events for this age in the country, and was a firm believer in the ability of the juveniles to travel a mile at this season of the year. The "Walden, as noted above, is a handicap for two-year-old colts and fillies, by subscription of ?25 each, starters to pay ?150 additional to the winner, with ?10,000 added, of which ,000 to the second, ,000 to the third and 00 to the fourth. The stake had its first running in 1907, when it was appropriately won by Jubilee, owned by Mr. "Waldens son-in-law, Fred Littlefield. Subsequent winners up to and including 1922 were Trance, Fauntleroy, Zeus, Penobscot, Ten Point, Superintendent, Double Eagle, Colonel Vennie, Columbine, "War Cloud, War Pennant, Dominique, Idle i Dell and Relay. j In 1923 the stake was run in two divisions, 0,000 added to each, the winners being Ran-cocas Stables Stanwix and H. G. Bedwells Senator Norris, the mile being run in the fast time of and 1:39t5 respectively. The weights have been announced for this fixture and Master Charlie has been assigned the post of honor, with 126 pounds. He will not bo a starter, however, as after Saturdays race his trainer announced that he would be retired for the year. Marshall Fields crack colt, Stimulus, is next in order with 124 pounds and is a probable contestant for this prize. j The following is the complete list of weights : Master Charlie 12G Fla?
