HANDICAP TO CORAL REEF Son of Pebbles Wins Feature Race at Beulah Park From Tom P. After Hard Drive. COLUMBUS, Ohio. April M The Athletic! Club Handicap was tin- feature of the pro- gram at I.eiilah 1ark today and resulted in a well-deserved vie ory for J. W. Kearns Coral Reef. Well ridden, the winner fol-lowed the early pacemakers, but approaching the far turn liegan moving up rapidly on the outside of the leaders and when straight -| cried out in the home stretch gradually wore: clown Tom P.. the early leader, and beat? I him in the last few yards. Tom P. tired I slightly when put to a drive in the final , sixteenth, although having a wide margin for third. Ideal conditions for the sport prevailed and the track maintained its fast condition. A large crowd was again on hand and the racing was good. In the first race Lo .- Pirate showed the way to her opponents by a comfortable margin all the way and finished fast. Re- I prieve finished will to he secend after racing! in close quarters throughout. Lam] Ward proved best of the others for the show portion. Havana Electric scored an easy victory in the second race, working his way up from the rear rounding the turn into the home Stretch and defeating Wilton Flanna in the : last sixteenth. The latter held Jack lot safe in the final drive. The third race for maiden three-year-olds and upward saw A. T. Reardons Hootch j graduate from the maiden class, when the son of Poiymelian and Home Bard triumphed over Australette. the early leader, after a hard and gruelling struggle in the stretch. Hootch got the- decision by a nose. Never- theless had a safe margin over the others for third place, I Wilmer The Wizard scored his second victory of the meeting in the seventh race, j Finding an opening next to the inner rail j when the leaders bore out rounding the turn; for home. Wilmer The Wizard saved much ground and finishing with a burst of speed outstayed Wapiti in a hard drive and won j by a narrow margin. Briar Sweet scored a similar victory in the fourth race, saving ground in the last eighth and wearing down the early leaders in the ftaal drive. Sir Glen proved •best of the others for second place while Erskine Dale; outstayed Glenn in the last strides for the show honors. «
