OFFDAY AT AURORA Platers Dominate Thursdays Card at Exposition Park Gad Captures Purse in Best Race Raceof of Day Treasurer Scores Third ThirdConsecutive Consecutive Victory in Sixth AURORA 111 May 12 Thursday was an offday at Exposition Park the entire card consisting of claiming races No outstanding feature race was scheduled and the fifth race bringing to the post the best field of the afternoon was the most important Mrs W J Potters Gad brought victory to her owner with a decisive victory over Flap of Truce Cross Bow and five others which started in the threequarters mile dash dashGetting Getting away from the barrier fast Gad raced along in the lead while Theo Fay was right in her wake and forced the pace for the first halfmile Ball Gee was in third place After passing the halfmile mark Gad then began to get the better of Theo Fay and shaking him off on the turn for home began to draw away into the lead easily and came to the finish winner by five lengths and was easing up at the end Ball Gee gave way at the turn into the stretch and a gen ¬ eral closing up by all resulted Theo Fay was soon in distress from chasing the early leader and when Flag of Truce made a reso ¬ lute bid at the eighthmile post in the stretch Theo Fay gave way quickly and Flag of Truce took second place easily while Cross Bow also grot up in the closing strides to nose out Theo Fay for the minor award awardTheo Theo Fay was backed to the exclusion of the others and his showing was a disap ¬ pointment to his followers when he failed to land among the three placed horses horsesIdeal Ideal weather conditions again brought out another large crowd to witness the sport which was at all times interesting and bor ¬ dered on the spectacular spectacularTREASURER TREASURER CONSISTENT CONSISTENTTreasurer Treasurer the eightyearold veteran which races for W R Padgett made it three wins in a row for himself when he took his opponents into camp easily in the sixth race at a mile and seventy yards The Missouri Stables Rebeck nearly proved a stumbling block for the winner in the final stages and succeeded in taking second place P Renters Clique was third thirdOn On the first turn Treasurer racing next to the inner rail was in the lead but his rider took him under restraint and moved back into fifth place until the stretch was reached where he gained steadily on the leaders and wearing down Rebeck in the last eighth won going away A awayA pronounced choice made good in the initial race which brought out a limit field trying for the purse over the five and a half furlongs route L Jenner rode the win ¬ ner well and steadily mowing down the lead ¬ ers in the stretch racing was up at the end to take the decision by a twolength margin Flora LeBreton after having a rather rough journey finally managed to prove easily best for second place while Circuit managed to take the minor award Porta Ella was backed heavily and her victory proved popu ¬ lar with the followers of shortpriced ones Over Lord indulged in leading his field a great part of the way but quit in the stretch when the winner came with her determined chal ¬ lenge victoryR which brought her the victory R Pollards Boys Believe Me was returned the winner over the five and a half furlongs dash which was the second on the card Another bulky field of twelve tried conclu ¬ sions here Much crowding and interference was forthcoming Strut Miss Lizzie and Stay On being the chief sufferers The winner raced in close pursuit of the leaders to the stretch entrance then began gaining and catching Tromping ToDay an eighth out was then able to just outfinish Strut Miss Lizzie for the purse The latter landed a neck in advance of Tromping ToDay for second place Polycarp was the favored one oneCLOSE CLOSE FINISH IN THIRD THIRDAnother Another close finish resulted in the third race when a cheap band of eleven sprinters faced the barrier to race fiveeighths J J Russells Quin Chin furnished a surprise and given a good ride by jockey W Bo ganowski managed to outstay Happy Top for the purse in the final strides Happy Top ran one of his good races and looked the winner when in front a few yards from th finish but tiring suddenly was outfin ished by the fastfinishing Quin Chin and just managed to defeat Make Up for third place Hidden Jewel and Martha Roos were the early leaders but tied and gave way fast when the stretch was reached and finished 1ud y beaten R L Bakers Updike showing a sudden Ooutimifil on twentieth page OFFDAY AT AURORA Continued from first page return to his best form was only canterin at the end of the fourth race to score by six lengths from Gilmore Realist and nine others Updike led all the way and made every post a winning one by steadily increas ¬ ing his advantage and if hard pressed in the stretch could have won by a wider margin Gilmore finishing with a sudden rush had the better of a short argument with Realist for second place Realist tired in the final drive having been much used in the early stages racing Play Hour into submission when the latter flattened with early speed Realist was the most fancied ona of this field
