OPENING POSTPONED Situation Remains Unchanged When Entries Fail to Fill Hope Entertained for Settlement SettlementIn In Time To Inaugurate InaugurateMeeting Meeting On Friday AURORA III May 1 Auroras opening which was to have marked the inauguration of the sport in Illinois was again deferred and will probably be realized Friday For while there was no outward change in the general situation today noon there is a feeling that the horsemen will recede from the attitude of forcing the Exposition track to accept their demands for an increase in purses and the collection of 1 per cent for the Thoroughbred Horse Association fund from winners and make entries to Fridays racing racingEarly Early today the Aurora officials by per ¬ sonal notice and through an extensive broad ¬ casting apparatus the horsemen were made acquainted that the entries for Thursdays program would be closed today noon Failure of horsemen to make entries in quantity to make a card available would result in declar ¬ ing off of Thursdays racing The entries were not made at the appointed time and the racing for Thursday was promptly called off The management also made it known that the track would be closed today noon and would not be opened for workouts today un ¬ less the horsemen indicated that they were ready to make entries that would insure the filling of races The management also made it known that a number of owners would then be ordered to vacate the stables in order to provide the stall space for newcomers who h ve telegraphed general manager Tirmbla their readiness to ship o the track upon no ¬ tice from him himAccording According to report the horsemen are re dy to abandon their demand for an in ¬ crease in purses providing that their request for 1 per cent is granted The rule of the Illinois Turf Association prohibiting any rac ¬ ing association in its membership from serv inj as a collecting agency for any cause makes it impossible for the Aurora track to meet this demand and the resorting to a subterfuge plan to collect the 1 per cent that was unofficially suggested met with a prompt turn down downMANAGER MANAGER TRIMBLES STATEMENT STATEMENTIn In discussing the situation Wednesday gen ¬ eralmanager Cliff Trimble said Horsemen were notified Wednesday early that their en ¬ tries must be in by 12 noon for Thursdays racing otherwise racing for that day would be called off Also all horsemen not willing to make entries and race here are requested to vacate their stalls by six oclock Thurs ¬ day night Express cars will be headed this way tomorrow and any of the owners choos ¬ ing to leave Exposition Park will have prompt facilities for doing so and can ship wherever they wish wishI I am giving them one more opportunity the entry box will be reopened at the secre ¬ tarys office Thursday morning to receive entries for Fridays card but entries Thurs ¬ day morning will close at the usual set time 10 30 a m In the event that a repetition of the past two days occurs and the horse ¬ men do not make entries for Friday the rac ¬ ing for the day will be declared off Those horsemen unwilling to make entries and race here will be expected to vacate their quarters to make room for owners with stables at other points desirious to ship here and will ¬ ing to race and not take part in this strike strikeField Field secretary L D Jones of the Thor ¬ oughbred Horse Association nor any of the striking members of that organization have not been around to consult me and I am not going in search of them to consult them in regard to racing their horses here At any rate that is all for the present Tomorrow morning they will have another opportunity to make entries up until 10 30 a m for Fri ¬ day and if they decline their departure is requested to make room for stables that will assist in the conducting of racing here by their willingness to run horses under present conditions prescribed by our association
