FAVORITEDISAPPOINTS Kentucky Ace Takes Measure of Percentage at Lexington Keeneland Purse Feature of Or ¬ dinary Program Morjoy Takes First of Juvenile Races LEXINGTON Ky May 3 The Keeneland Purse given over to four older racers and the best race on an ordinary program that was offered under adverse weather and track conditions at the Kentucky Association track here this afternoon furnished a big surprise to the large crowd that braved the cold and rain when J W Parrishs Percentage one of the outstanding favorites of the meeting was defeated by Kentucky Ace AceThe The latter won in a romp at the end of the one mile and seventy yards which he ran over the heavy course in 149 beating Percentage by five lengths Dunmore which finished third and Florhi the other starter were outrun the 1ace being one of the poorest here in some time timePercentage Percentage flattered his army of backers who installed him the 13 to 20 favorite by leading to the stretch but when the winner challenged him in the last quarter he proved nothing like a match for him For the first fiveeighths Percentages advantage fluctu ¬ ated from three to four lengths while Ken ¬ tucky Ace was twice as far in advance of Florhi Upon reaching the stretch Percen ¬ tages lead vanished swiftly and in the final eighth Kentucky Ace drew away rapidly as Dunmore passed Florhi into third place but was nothing like a menace so far as en ¬ dangering Percentage for second place was concerned concernedSECOND SECOND CHOICE CHOICEKentucky Kentucky Ace was the second choice in the betting and benefited through the hustling ride he received at the hands of Willie Crump It was his second victory at the meeting meetingThe The Valley Lake Stable furnished the win ¬ ner of the first race in Morjoy a first time starter which was backed to the exclusion of the others She won by half a length from Incubite at the end of four and a half fur ¬ longs and in a race marked by some listless riding Taking the lead from Incubite enter ¬ ing the stretch the winner drew clear but tired in the final eighth and Incubite despite running in the worst going was reducing the winners margin at the end Antha S on which D Connelly had the mount was raced wide throughout and poorly ridden in the final drive did not improve her position to any extent extentHidden Hidden Thoughts was returned winner over Nevermore Little Hattie and five others in the second race Nevermore which began slowly on the deeper part of the track fin ¬ ished gamely to take second place two lengths back of the winner and well in ad ¬ vance of Little Hattie The winner came in for considerable support but Nevermore ruled a 9 to 10 favorite favoriteCLOSE CLOSE FINISH FINISHOne One of the closest finishes of the afternoon resulted in the third race the second on the program for twoyearolds when A M In grams maiden Granite Dust at good odds defeated Thistle Jean also a maiden by a head as Port Gar led Miss Peggy by a nose for third The youngsters raced over four and onehalf furlongs and both the winner and Thistle Jean were raced from behind the early pace that was set by Port Gar and forced by Miss Peggy Both the latter two tired in the final drive driveMaster Master Sweep from the stable of Mrs W J Potter joined the double winners at the meeeting and won the second victory of the day for the favorites when he scored over Lady Herbert Master and three others in the fourth race Disposing of Col Bob for the lead after threeeighths the winner led thereafter and gamely withstanding several challenges from Lady Herbert in the early stages of the final quarter won in handy fashion by a length and a half Col Bob after displaying the most early speed found the pace too fast and tiring just failed to last for third place which went to Master by bynose noseThe nose The sixth race the third for twoyearolds was productive of another close finish in which Marge Collins a rank outsider ridden by R Finnerty earned the decision over Bud Charlton Marge Collins led all through tre stretch but tired and swerved in the la3t eighth and Finnerty just managed to save the race will her In the final stages both Surcease which finished third and Rose Jar which followed in fourth place gained much ground and were racing aster than the lead ¬ ers at the end The winners backers re ¬ ceived straight odds of slightly more than 68 to 1
