FOURTH STRAIGHT VICTORY Crossco Adds Stafford Handicap to List of Triumphs Wild Hose Farm Mare Wins Every Start in inMaryland Maryland This Spring Baron King KingAlso Also Scores PIMLICO Md May 3 Crossco the con ¬ sistent mare which races for the Wild Rose Farm Stable added the Stafford Handicap to the list of victories she scored on the Maryland circuit this spring when she beat the Audley Farm Stables Bobashela by a head Sankari from the R C Stable was third another length back backThere There were five starters in the Stafford Handicap Soul of Honor being withdrawn The field was promptly dispatched to a good start and in the run to the first turn Boba ¬ shela outran her opponents Arcturus was third and Crossco fourth on the outside At the halfmile post Crossco joined Bobashela and the pair raced like a team from there ta the end Just before entering the stretch Bobashela was unable to improve his posi ¬ tion In the final drive both hung on well wellBobashela Bobashela was giving seven pounds and a year to the winner and under the circum ¬ stances his effort was a good one In her four starts in Maryland this spring Crosscc has been a winner each time timeThe The Woodberry Handicap an added at ¬ traction was for sprinters It was a race of threequarters mile and The Heathen was top weight at 125 pounds but despite this he had the call in the wagering The Heathen was unequal to the task He showed a bril ¬ liant burst of speed in the early stages but on the far turn was joined by Baron King and Donnay Entering the stretch this pair passed him and in the final eighth Baron King drew away to win by a length from Donnay which beat Charmarten three lengths for second place The Heathen fol ¬ lowed another length back Charmarten lacked early speed and was far back to the head of the stretch In the final eighth he finished with a rush and at the finish was gcing fastest of all allPartisan Partisan the Wildair colt which races for G D Widener accounted for the opening race when he won in easy fashion from Sunaibi Guilder was tliird The tip in the race was Yeoman Ambrose had the mount on the Jeffords colt He began with the leaders but raced on the outside and was going apparently well within himself on the far turn but making the turn for home he began dropping out of it In the meantime Guilder with Partisan in close pursuit was out in front setting the pace and in the Continued on twentieth page
