Kentucky Derby Lore Where Favorites Finished i Favorites have fared exceptionally well throughout the long and glorious history of the Kentucky Derby. Only ten times out of fifty-seven runnings have the favorites finished outside of the money. Twenty-nine have won the famous race, thirteen have finished second, and five third. During the last ten years seven favorites carried off the great prize, and three were unplaced.
