LOWERS TRACK RECORD Bien Fait Romps to Victory in Mich ¬ igan Cup Handicap Gallops One Mile and an Eighth Over Fair Grounds Track in 150 Favorite Third DETROIT Mich June 9 Bien Fait son of the 1926 Kentucky Derby winner Bub ¬ bling Over and Bon Voyage and a maiden starting his threeyearold campaign justi ¬ fied the judgment of W C Stroube Texas sportsman and Alf Tarn Canadian horse ¬ man when he carried the blue and white colors of their Corsicana Stable to an easy victory in the Michigan Cup Handicap which headed a brilliant program offered at the Fair Grounds this afternoon afternoonAt At the finish of the mile and a furlong race which was worth 2510 to the winner Bien Fait which was purchased this spring from Colonel Bradley had a sixlength ad ¬ vantage over Old Depot heretofore member of the claiming ranks and sporting the col ¬ ors of A Bartelstein Chicago sportsman Patchpocket like the winner a Detroit Der ¬ by eligible was third a length back of Old Depot and a head before Watch Him which carrying 115 pounds was the top weight of the field fieldEleven Eleven started the nine furlongs which Bien Fait ran in 150 and lowered the track mark of PariMutuel by one and threefifths seconds secondsThere There was a slight delay at the start when Old Depot was fractious and was the last in motion While the winner soon wrested the lead from Watch Him and made every post a winning one thereafter Old Depot was forced to work his way forward gradu ¬ ally and wore down Patchpocket in the last furlong The latter forced the pace after the first threeeighths but after offering the winner a strong challenge in the stretch he tired when Old Depot made his belated charge chargeWith With the exception of Bamboula which held second place for threeeighths and Ter alice a strong factor from the start the others failed to meance the leaders leadersFavored Favored by the light impost of 103 pounds and ridden by F Munden the winner was the second choice to Patchpocket and paid 1040 for each 2 investment investmentWith With the expectation of seeing Mata Hari under colors a crowd second to that of Memorial Day was on hand for the eight race program Although a hard rain visited the downtown sector during the morning hours there was only a short and light driz ¬ zle at the track The track was at its best and fast time was recorded in most of the events Favorites again experienced tough sledding but several of the second choices were victorious and they made amends for those held in greatest esteem esteemThe The C V Whitney stable which has been very prominent here provided another win ¬ ner of a leading attraction when Trumpery added the Bay City Handicap to his Detroit successes At the end of the six furlongs which attracted a field of six Mrs F A Car reauds well backed Time Supply was sec ¬ ond with Mrs A A Baronis Flying Sailor third Although the latter was the first under way Trumpery was rushed into com ¬ mand and he held a good advantage all the way Flying Sailor was his chief contender tut Time Supply was the victim of adverse racing luck and after being away last and in close quarters in the run to the far turn Tommy Luther was forced to take the favor ¬ ite to the outside for room Once clear he improved his position fast and this effort which was the first since his Preakness engagement proved too much and he tired after offering Trumpery a mild challenge near the final threesixteenths threesixteenthsHarry Harry Unna saddled another winner for A Bartelstein when Merovech sprung a sur ¬ prise when he lasted to beat the wellre ¬ garded Morsun a nose at the end of the threequarters introductory dash Kalola was third a head before Two Tricks which was the best of the eight others othersPhildia Phildia stakewinning juvenile under the Mrs M Weiner colors added another vic ¬ tory to his seasons score when he beat Love Sick by threequarters of a length for the Winners portion of the Cadillac Purse which engaged seven twoyearolds over five fur ¬ longs Blackbirder was third thirdRacing Racing into the lead at the start the win ¬ ner held sway throughout and although Love Sick which forced the pace all the way offered a strong challenge in the final stages the winner held on gamely Black birder improved his position at a loss of ground and was much the best of the others
