YOUNG TRACK VETERINARIAN Shreveport Man Appointed to Post at Caddo Parrish Track Al Mallhes Made Manager of Clubhouse for forMeeting Meeting Which Begins Saturd 7 Popular Choice SHREVEPORT La Oct 20 Announce ¬ ment of two important appointments to the roster of the State Jockey Club personnel was made today by E Bernard Weiss vice president of the Louisiana State Fair and director in charge of racing The appoint ¬ ments are Dr Anderson V Young promi ¬ nent veterinary surgeon of Shreveport to the post of track veterinarian and Al Mail hes well known local sportsman as manager of the clubhouse which will be opened for the first time with the inauguration of the twentyfive SaturdayIn days of racing on Saturday In keeping with the practice followed at all of the major tracks saliva tests will be made by Dr Young at his discretion or upon the order of the stewards supervising the racing commented Mr Weiss WeissSpecimens Specimens will be taken at the barn after I the race in which any horse gives any indi ¬ cation of having been stimulated or other 1 wise tampered with and drastic action will be taken against any persons found guilty of using narcotics or any other stimulants the director of racing stated statedHIGH HIGH CLASS RACING We have made every preparation for the staging of a high class race meeting for enthusiasts of northern Louisiana east Texas and Arkansas and all officials en ¬ gaged to look after the details of the con ¬ duct of the sport are of the highest type obtainable The officials selected for the State Jockey Clubs autumn meeting are well known to racing fans throughout the country and Canada serving at such tracks as Hialeah Park Tropical Park Arlington Park Washington Park Hawthorne Lin ¬ coln Fields Detroit Thistle Downs River Downs and many other points Mr Weiss concluded concludedI I Al Mailhes who attended Notre Dame I Continued on thirtyfourth page YOUNG TRACK VETERINARIAN Continued from first page University and at present the opponent of Edwin McClure in the finals of the city golf tournament which will be decided Sunday at the Country Club is quite popular among the younger set of Shreveport and also the elder socialites of north Louisiana therefore making an ideal clubhouse manager at the State Jockey Club track trackSPECIAL SPECIAL DAYS PLANNED PLANNEDIn In addition to the foregoing announce ¬ ments it was stated by officials that a num ¬ ber of special days are being planned for the entire period of the meeting honoring towns in Louisiana Texas and Arkansas on which occasions all of the races on the days pro ¬ gram will bear the names of the honor city and some of its most prominent business and sportsmenOne civic leaders and sportsmen One of the major plans now in progress is a New Orleans Day which is tentatively arranged for a day during the week of the meeting on which Mayor Robert S Maestri and a large delegation of civic leaders of the Crescent City are expected to attend the races and fair exhibits exhibitsIn In the event that the weather is favorable officials of the State Jockey Club are pre ¬ dicting a new high in attendance figures for the ushering in of the racing season basing their prophesy on the amount of interest being manifest in this territory
