STEVENSON SETTING PACE FOR RIDERS FOR WATCH PRIZE BALTIMORE Md Nov 5 Jockey C Stevenson American champion in 1935 is setting the pace with four victories in the newly launched competition for the Mary ¬ land Racing Writers Gruen watch award which will be presented to the jockey who rides the most winners at the Pimlico and Bowie meetings here this fall Two riding competitions with the winner of each re ¬ ceiving a Gruen gold watch are planned as annual features by the turf scribes of this section The first competition each year will be for the leading rider during the Maryland spring season and the second will be for the leader during the fall campaign Because their plans did not mature until just before the Pimlico inaugural only the final two meetings of the current fall season will form the initial award period The beautifully designed gold prize is the latest curvex de ¬ sign
