War Minstrel a handicap performer who at one time during his career whipped the mighty Seabiscuit made his second at ¬ tempt to win over this halfmile course a successful one when he accounted for the Oak Ridge purse an allowance race for older horses which featured an eventful days sport at this popular oval Not only did he earn brackets but the gelded son of Royal Minstrel paid the sensational price of 19 in the mutuels to those who were confident of his chances against the kind of opposition he met here hereLeading Leading from end to end except for a few strides in the run for the first turn when Mrs J F Waters Talked About got his nose to the front temporarily the Denemark gelding was timed in 129 over a racing strip which had been wetted down by the showers which fell just before the horses went to the post War Minstrel took the track out of the gate but Talked About went right with him and it wasnt until the far turn was reached that the Denemark gelding was able to dispose Hoffmans Due miss to victory in the first race on the card At the end of the five furlongs of that event for 1000 platers the Breadman mare led Fox Scotts Honey Roll a length and a half as she
